Good Day;
My name is Robert Dunne. I tried to post this information before, but I am not sure if it went through.
I was told that both my Grandfather(Edward Patrick Dunne SR.) and my father(Edward Patrick Dunne JR) were born in Skerries. The only solid and factual information I have is the following.
My father was trained as a boxer, when he was growing up in NYC. He returned to Ireland in August of 1937 to fight for the LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP OF IRELAND. The bout took place, in Dublin, on August 20, 1937. I forget if his opponent's name was Smith or Kelly. My father won on a disputed TKO in the 6th round. He never returned to Ireland.
There was an article in a Skerrie's newspaper, in 2007, titled THE FOX AND THE BOXER,which told of a young Skerries resident's experience while watching my father prepare for the fight. The author apparently waited until he was in his 80's to recount, in detail, his experience.
I wish I had more info, but that is all I have. Any information would be much appreciated.
Wishing You and Yours the best.
BE WELL! Robert Stephen Dunne

Hi Robert
I see your Grandfather mentioned on a USA website, very short synopsis of his record but not Irish fight.
you can subscribe to the Irish Times site at http://www.irishtimes.com for a day or week and see if there is a report. There is another site for local papers at Irish Newspaper Archive but not all local newspapers are on it.
There is a historical site for Skerries but does not appear to be running fully yet. I am not the volunteer for Skerries but live about 15 miles away.
A search of the 1911 census shows a few Dunnes in the area but the area is Holmpatrick an old name for the area but they are in Oberstown which is in the nearby village of Lusk.
If you want me to check more sites or more up to date info assuming I can locate it please email me at ohalloran.pat@gmail.com as we are in the more recent times where people are still alive.
good luck

I know it's been a long time since this was posted and it is probably a long shot but thought I would try anyway.
Hi Robert Dunne,
From your post here I think that we might in some way be related. Possibly that my grandmother is your father's sister?? If you wouldn't mind contacting me and we can determine if that is actually the case. My email address is brandi1299@gmail.com.
Thank you,
I hope you have a wonderful day!
