My name is Jim Clark and I live in Ontario, Canada. I have been researching my family here and know for a fact that my gg grandfather James (Thomas) Vance came from Enniskillen, Fermanagh, Ireland some time around 1851. His future wife and supposed cousin Mary Wilson whom I believe is from the same area came around 1849. Both landed I believe in New Brunswick, Canada and then settled in Ontario. I think my gg grandfathers father may have been a Thomas Vance. I know in 1848 there is a Thomas Vance listed as a grocer in Enniskillen. Mary Wilson's father I believe to have been Robert Wilson. Other than this I know nothing of either of their families until they come to Canada.
On my Clark end my gg grandfather was Jonas/James Clark. There is a story his father was John Clark and his mother Elizabeth. John supposedly born 1765 and Elizabeth 1766. It is stated they may have come from Northern Ireland but don't know exactly where. Any help on any of this would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Jim Clark U.E.

Jim, one way to make some possible progress woulkd be to find a living male Vance who would be willing to do a DNA test; that would at least establish which group of Vances yours belong to and might lead to a better knowledge of their orignis; some cousins — and even an earlier ancestor.
You can see the work already done at https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/vance/about/results.
There are at least two testees with known origins in Fermanagh (as far as I recall), one in Group 2a and one in Group 3.
Jamie.
