How are Ballyward and Legananny related? Is Ballyward a recording district for Legananny, or just another townland?
Thanks for all your help!

Ballyward is a townland. It is also the name of the local electoral registration district. (An electoral registration district is simply an administrative arrangement for grouping the voters. All the voters in one electoral registration district generally vote at the same polling station). The following townlands are in that electoral registration district:
Ballydrummond
Ballymagreehan
Ballyward
Clonmaghery
Derryneil
Drumlee
Gargory
Maghermayo
Legananny is a townland in Leitrim electoral registration area. It contains the following townlands:
Backaderry
Ballymaginity
Benrow
Legananny No. 1
Leitrim
The only connections that I am aware of are that both Ballyward and Legananny townlands are in the same parish (Drumgooland) and they also both fall within the same Poor Law Union and Civil Registration district (Banbridge). So they are connected by being near each other, in the same parish and in the same civil registration district.
Knowing the parish helps find the correct sets of records for each townland eg tithes, baptisms and church marriage records. Knowing the civil registration district helps identify the statutory records of births, deaths and marriages that relate to those townlands.
If you want to see al the townlands in the country, county, parish or civil registration district, use this website, which lists them all:
