Birth Certificate and Baptismal Record for Timothy Joseph McCarthy

Most of the church records for Cork can be found online between two sites www.rootsireland.ie and www.irishgenealogy.ie   However I did a very quick search for your grandfather but failed to find him.  You seem to have a definite date for his birth, yet without a birth certificate this would be questionable.  If you got his details from a tombstone or newspaper  then please keep a very open mind regarding dates.

If you are totally sure of his dob and his parents' names then you should apply to www.groireland.ie for his birth certificate.  State records began in Ireland in 1864 so he falls well within the timeframe.

As I cannot find him using the information that you gave, then I would suggest that you widen your parameters for future  searches.  Most people who emigrated didn't know what age they were and just guessed at the port of arrival.  This was the information that followed them throughout their lives. Have you any idea when he travelled to the US?  If he was still in Ireland in 1901 then you should find him on the census (which is free to peruse online).  Have you looked at passenger lists?  Do you know which port he arrived at?

Please keep your search parameters wide and gradually narrow it down.  One thing for sure is that there is no record online for a Timothy Joseph Mc carthy born 1875 with parents John and Catherine (allen).  So something here is incorrect.  Did he go by the name of Timothy or Joseph?  Look back at the US census and look at what name he went by.

Thank you for responding. I am very sure of my grandfather birth date. I found his name and age on the ship's passenger record which corresponds with the date of his birth. He emigrated from Queenstown, Ireland on the ship, Aurania, and arrived in New York on 5 March 1888. this information came from Ancestry.com. On his marriage certificate he listed his father's name as John McCarthy and his mother Catherine (Kate) Allen. I know he had two sisters who preceeded him to the US, but I don't know their names. He was not in Ireland in 1901. I have the 1920 US census which listed his name as Timothy and his age. He always went by Timothy. I contacted the Civil Registration Service in Ireland and they did a serch for Timothy McCarthy and Timothy McCarty from 1874-1877 with no results. I am really at an impasse and don't know where to look further. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
