Looking for evidence of birth for Annie Gallagher, from Bunbeg(Gweedore) Cty Donegal. Born about 1870; died in Brooklyn NY in 1909. She immigrated to the US about 1885-1890. Her parents, Manus Gallagher and Mary Mc Fadden remained in Ireland. They appear on later census reports. There are also birth registrations for two of Annie's (I presume) siblings: Owen and Bridget, but I can't locate any record at all for Annie. Any info or suggestions would be appreciated.

Stephanie:
I located two 1870 civil birth index records for an Anne Gallagher in the Dunfanaghy registration district which includes Tullaghobegly civil parish. There were also records for other years 1869, 1871, 1872 etc. Anne Gallagher was a very common name in the area. You may want to contact the General Register Office and try to get a copy of the record. A copy of a birth record costs around 4 euros. Instructions are below. I would give them both index records and tell them that you are looking for the Anne Gallagher with parents Manus Gallagher and Mary McFadden.

Go to this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx In the middle of the page there are links for birth, marriage or death certificates. Hit the link for the form you want. You will likely get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. (This is a program bug that the GRO has to correct). Hit cancel and the appropriate form should come up. Print the form and complete the requested information. Also provide the information from the index record--quarter/year of the event. registration district and the volume and page number where the event is recorded. Make sure you ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. ( A cert costs closer to 20 euros). You can also ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back to you.
