My 3rd gr grandfather Soloman Feltis (Feltus) was born in 1820 in Enniscothy Wexford we believe. Some information has his father listed as William Feltis and his mother as Isabella Doyle from Kilnahue.

We believe Soloman married Catrherine Wade in 1844, had daughter Sarah in 1844, and son Franklin Sylvester in 1846 before leaving Ireland in 1847.

Soloman, and perhaps his brothers, may have come to Ohio, USA via Ontario Canada.

Looking to confirm this information, and perhaps connect with any family descendents.

Thanks!

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your message.

Luckily, Catholic records in Enniscorthy start as early as 1794 so you may be able to find some records confirming that Solomon was from the parish. Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. For Enniscorthy parish, follow this link:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Wexford&parish=Enniscorthy&churchid=593

Records from the parish have also recently been added to Roots Ireland website, however there is a fee to view these. Here is the link:

  • My husband and I live in Australia and have recently been to Ireland researching my husband's Feltis ancestors.

We visited the Church of Ireland (Protestant) RCB Library in Dublin where the Birth, Death and Burial Records are held for Ferns & Kilbride Parishes in Wexford. We knew that my husband's Feltis family was from Ferns Parish. Indexes for the books are not available at this stage. We went through the books and recorded all the birth, marriage and burial records for the Feltis family.

We found the baptism of one Solomon, a brother Henry and the marriage of their parents and in the records:

The marriage: Francis Feltis and Sarah Doyle, both of Kilbride Parish by Banns, 5 August 1816

Baptisms for children of Francis & Sarah Feltis (Doyle):

    Henry, 26 August 1817

    Solomon, 19 March 1820

Hi all;  I'm very interested in this Feltis/Feltus family also!  :)

**I would love to know if any of these Feltis folks show up in the Ferns & Kilbride Parish books or not, and if not, I can move onto other parishes.  :)

My Gr-gr-gr-Grandmother was Margaret FELTIS born about 1812, Ireland noted as a seamstress and milliner in a couple of Canadian Census. She married Joseph Stoneham in 1839 Toronto, York County, Ontario Canada, and so in 1839 it listed her father as:  the  late Henry FELTIS of the county of Wexford, Ireland, Sawyer, deceased.

This is all I've got so far.

Margaret and a couple of her brothers came to Canada, and settled in the Simcoe County area of Ontario Canada (up near Barrie Ontario- today) One settled even more north of that, in Grey County Ontario.

Margaret's Brothers that also came to Canada:
James Feltis - born about 1815, Ireland settled in the Essa Twp, area of Simcoe County, Ontario Canada
*James Feltis bought his property Lot 9, Con 8 Jan 10, 1844 for $43.15.  -And his sister Margaret (Feltis) Stoneham by then a WIDOWER with 6 children - bought nearby property at Lot 10, Con 8 for $52, Feb 12, 1859.
James Feltis' wife is found as a widower in the 1861 Census she was Susan Duff, born

Henry Feltis - born about 1820, Ireland settled in Sydenham, Grey County, Ontario Canada.

ANY help or suggestions would be much appreciated! I've pretty much reached a brick wall at this point.
    Rebecca
