I am searching for information regarding Bartholomew Foley (b. 1818 or so) and Hanora/Hannah Connors or O'Connor (b. 1819 or so). Batholomew's mother's name was Mary. Hanora's parents were James Connors and Mary Barry. Bartholomew and Hanora were married in a Catholic ceremony in Rathcormac on 5 Febrary 1837.
Bartholomew and Hanora had 5 children: Margaret Foley (b. 1838), Bridget Foley (b. 1840), John Foley (b. 1844), Catherine Foley (b. 1846), Mary Foley (b. 1849), and Hanora Foley (b. 1851).
Bartholomew and Hanora emigrated to the U.S. between 1851 and 1855. We have information that says Bartholomew was a teacher in Ireland and possibly fled to the U.S. due to social persecution. Any suggestions on how to find out if there is any truth to this story?
All suggestions welcome. Thank you.

Dear TGleeson
As you can see from the link below Rathcormack is a large Civil Parish in Co. Cork:
The records for the Roman Catholic Parish of Rathcormack begin in 1792. As this is the case, you could have a look at www.familysearch.org for information on Bartholomew and Hanora/Hannah. You may be able to find a marriage record and baptism records for their children.
You may also be able to find a record of the family on the Tithe Applotment Books 1823-1837 and Griffith?s Valuation 1847-1864, the former was a tax on agricultural produce paid to the Church of Ireland and the latter was a land tax survey:

In relation to their emigration to the US on the basis of social persecution, the following University College Cork website offers a great overview of the social, political and religious conditions of the time:

Best of luck with your search
