My great grandfather was James McMahon. Born in North Kilrush in 1842/1843. Travelled to Brisbane in 1864 on the Ariadne which departed from Liverpool. He married my great grandmother, Margaret Conway in 1867 in Brisbane. They had 11 children. Margaret ran a successful bakery & James worked as a quarryman. He died in 1929 in Brisbane. His marriage cert lists his parents as Patrick McMahon & Margaret MacMahon. I haven't had much luck tracing his family of origin so far. Can you help?
Thank You
Darby

Hi there,
I am sorry to say your McMahon is not from my ancestry.
My McMahon was a Dennis McMahon who arrived with his wife Bridget Cahill as a " Native of Kilrish" in 1840. He was born about 1819. Good luck with your search

Hi Jane,
Thank you for your comment. I am chasing another McMahon as well. His name is Michael, a native of County Clare who died in Brisbane in 1900 aged 45. There is a memorial plaque on the side of a family headstone here in Brisbane. At first thought he was related, but a funeral notice in the local paper described him as a "friend". His funeral moved from my great grandparents home. Quite curious, don't you think?

Can anyone help! My James McMahon was baptised at North Kilrush in 1842.
Would this record be kept separate from Kilrush records? I have searched in the newly released Irish records for Kilrush without success - there was no option for North Kilrush.
I will be visiting Ireland from Australia next month. Is there a North Kilrush church?
Thank you, Denyse

Dear Denyse
Our Kilrush volunteer has spent some time checking registers but there is no James born to a Patrick in those years. Lots of McMahon's and Patrick's but none matching your criteria. She remarked that you may be focusing on the wrong Kilrush.
Best wishes
