Hi
I am trying to find any information on Michael Gara and his family.
He was baptized on 6th October 1861 in R C Boyle Roscommon. He had 3 brothers Patrick 1859 Charles 1864 and Andrew 1868. His parents were Patritii Gara and Catherinae Healy, although i cant find any evidence of the marriage.
Michael moved to Droylsden in Manchester where he married Elizabeth Allen in 1882.
Thankyou for any information you can provide.
Regards

The Garas were from Derrymaquirk townland in Boyle Parish. The 1856 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing shows a Patrick Gara and a Patrick Gara Jr. living in Derrymaquirk. I assume the Jr. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/roscommon/boyle.htm is the father of Michael, Patrick, Charles and Andrew.
The 1901 census for Derrymaquirk shows three O'Gara families. The first is headed by a Patrick O'Gara who I believe is the 1859 brother of Michael. There was also a William O'Gara and a Charles O'Gara who were in their 60s possibly brothers of the elder Patrick. The same households were there in the 1911 census. www.census.nationalarchives.ie

Janice:
Derrymaquirk is 3-4 miles southwest of the town of Boyle. The main church in Boyle is St. Josephs. Not sure if your family worshiped there or another smaller church.
