John Aleander Dupree died in Belfast in 1882 age 80 but I cannot find out where he was born.
he was married to Jane Bennett (born 1800) in about 1823 but I don't know where.
They had several children - Mary (1825) David (1829), John Alexander (1831), Marcus (1843), Hannah Annie (1847) and Thomas (1849)

Hi MaggieRed
Family search gives a marriage record for John Alexander Dupree born 1831 and married to Rachel in 1853. Unfortunately it only tells us 'Belfast'. There is also a marriage record for a David, brother of John who married an Elizabeth Neill in 1854 - you may have this info already

Assuming people didn't go too far out of their way to marry, the family generally speaking, would have lived in one place throughout their lives. Maybe if you could find out where he died you would discover where he was born that is, from a headstone.
There are 5 historic graves under the jurisdiction of Belfast City Council/Corporation according to their website. I admit, there are likely a LOT of headstones but they may know someone with specific knowledge an/or have access to a burial/plot register in their archives. The surname is quite rare, it would be a shame, given all the info you have to get stuck here. Might be a good idea to contact them.

Hi MaggieRed
I see your post was four years ago and I'm just wondering if you had any success in tracking down your Dupre?
My Great Great Great Grandmother Elizabeth Revell (nee Duprey/Dupre) is shown in the 1841 British Census as being born in Belfast Ireland in 1791 and I was wondering if there could have been some connection between my ancestor and yours, given their birth dates are reasonably close and given the unusual surname (Huguenot descendant) and from Northern Ireland.
Kind Regards
Adrian

Hi Adrian , unfortunately I haven’t got any further. I also think that there were a few Dupree families in Belfast because, on a course I did about Ireland, you could see how many people had the surname & where they lived. I think my ancestor may have had brothers called Hamilton, Hugh and Hastings-this is only an assumption to try & help me knock down the brick wall! Sorry I can’t be of more help but if I do find anything I will let you know. Maggie

Hi Maggie
Many thanks for your reply. I had thought of the possibility of numbers of families with the same surname and given that there could have been a few generations born there, that makes perfect sense. I'll keep looking and as I'm recently retired I have more time to do that now. The other thing I was going to mention is that my ancestor Elizabeth had about 6 children in Bristol England, I believe, of which one was John and the another Jonathon.
Again, I appreciate your reply.

Hi again Maggie
I'm still half asleep as I just remembered that one of Elizabeth's (Duprey/Dupre) children (born 1823) was named John Hastings, and it seems to me that quite frequently the child had the middle name coming from the mother's side. Anyway, interesting.

Hi again Maggie
In the course of trying to trace my ancestor Elizabeth Dupre, I came across a John Alex Dupre, Pattern Maker, of 46 Rosewood St Dunseith. I am uncertain as to the date of the directory in which this information was listed. I also located a separate 1846 Slaters directory listing Hugh Dupre Spirit dealer of 14 Berry Street Belfast and a Hastings Dupre Coachmaker of 13 Fountain Street Belfast. I hope I'm not telling you something you already know.
Kind Regards
Adrian
