Hello, I am a descendant of Patrick John Power, born Kilkenny 7 August 1874 - parents John Power and Catherine Sausse - who immigrated from Bennettsbridge to Australia early 1890's - married in Broken Hill NSW Australia in 1898. Would you have any information on the family in Ireland - I have been unsuccessful in tracing him back to his Irish roots and how and when exactly he arrived in Australia.
Thanks,
Roz Parsons

Dear Roz
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in replying to your message.
As you can see from the link below, Bennettsbridge appears in two Civil Parishes in Kilkenny ? Danesfort and Treadingstown:

Records for the corresponding Roman Catholic Parish of Danesfort begin in 1819. As this is the case, you should be able to obtain records of the baptism of Patrick and possibly the marriage record of his parents (assuming his mother was from that parish and married there).
There are some places where you can search online, however these websites do not have complete collections and many do not cover the period after 1900:
www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.
www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.
Other important sources include the Tithe Applotment Books and Griffith?s Valuation:

Some other websites that may be helpful are:
The National Archives of Ireland: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/ - you can search the 1901/1911 Census on the National Archives page too
The National Library of Ireland: http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
