It appears that one of my Roxborough's was with the Rough Riders during the Roosevelt campaign. Would appreciate any help anyone can give in regard to this. Thanks.

  • Good Afternoon

Have you tried a very general surname search on the sites below just to see where that takes you?

www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.

www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.

http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ have begun a project to upload Irish church records to their site free of charge. However, so far only Counties Dublin, Kerry, Carlow and parts of Cork have been covered.

What was the source of your information for this?

    Best wishes

  • Hello Clare, thanks again.  Well, I have established that William Roxborough my grandfather went to Pennsylvania 1868/9, married 1868, first born daughter born 1869 in PA.  Their name somehow turned into Roxberry over there but William returned to NI approx 1893 and continued as a Roxborough.  I thought my mothers side was interesting and quirky but the Irish side really wins all over them!  I just am so passionate about my ancestry and genealogy in general. I am discovering so much about my ancestors and it now like Who Do You think You Are, I am learning why I am the way I am and why I do what I do because I am learning what my ancestors were like as people, its not just about names is it.  Thanks again and I will regularly post on this site, I have a lot of information I want to reveal and with other surnames that are related by marriage.  Until then and not too long.  Cheers, Sheila.
