I have records of my ancestors being married and their children being baptised in St. Mary's Haddington Road. Their home addresses were Beggars Bush Barracks and Bennetts Cottages. Am I contacting the correct church?

Thank you

  • Records for St. Mary's Haddington Road are included on the IrishGenealogy website see here

As well as transcripts you can also view images of the registers. The church is only about 400m from the location of the barracks.

The parish at Haddington Rd. was established in 1876, and earlier would have been part of Irishtown, Ringsend, Donnybrook and Sandymount. A cover page of the register mentions 'St. Mary's Haddington Road' Irishtown and Donnybrook. The register appears to have been rebound at some stage.

  • Thank you for that information and the link to the web site. I can now try to work out who is who in my family.

  • I Have been checking the records in St Mary's Haddington Rd for my family history and have not been able to find some evidence and I was wondering if there was another nearby church that they may have used.

    Thank you

  • what dates are involved ?

the parishes changed over time so this makes a difference, the boundaries changed and new parishes were established - e.g. in late 1840s there were less parish than in later years. At that time the adjacent county Dublin parishes to the area that would later be covered by Haddington Rd. parish would have been  "Irishtown & Donnybrook", ''Booterstown, Blackrock & Dundrum', possibly also Rathmines. and the area would also have been at the edge of the city, so also St. Andrews, Westland Row parish.

You can check into date that various parishes were established and the areas they covered here
