I'm wondering if anyone has information on and/or connection to a Margaret Clarke or a William Luther of Borrisokane?
My great-grandmother, Catherine Luther, was their daughter - born in 1833 in Crotta, Borrisokane. She emigrated to Canada at some point (date unknown) and married Roderick Kelly of Nepean. Having just discovered her origins and parents' names, I would love to know more about the family.
Thanks in advance!

Hello Mairead,
Thank you for looking into this for me.
The only information I had on Catherine Luther - prior to coming to this site - was that she was born in 1833 in Tipperary. She apparently married my great-grandfather, Roderick Kelly in Canada, as he was already residing in Nepean, Ontario, and their first child - my grandmother Bridget Kelly - was born in 1859. They had 7 more children until April, 1871 when Catherine died of puerperal fever in Nepean.
I recently came to this site and posted a message regarding Catherine, as well as my Kelly ancestors - Roderick (dob c 1829 in Ireland) and his parents, John Kelly (dob 1797 Ireland) and Bridget Heenan (dob 1797 Ireland). The help I was given led me to Catherine's birth record in Crotta, Borrisokane, and her parents' names: William Luther and Margaret Clarke, but I have not been able to find anything concrete on either parent. I have no idea if there were other siblings, either.
Sorry that it's not much to go on. Any information or direction is very much appreciated.

Thanks again, Mairead. I have checked the listings you suggest (except the actual microfilm records), without success. I found a couple of "possibles" but no definite relationship. Looks like this family may be another "dead end" for now.
Thanks for looking.

This is really exciting, Mairead. Catherine Luther left Ireland for Canada sometime before 1858, so I had not considered looking at later records. But, since Luther is such an uncommon name in Ireland, there is a good possibility these people are related. If I can somehow back-track and determine that they are also descended from William and Margaret, I may be able to get more information on this family! Thank you so much for that.
