I have hit the proverbial 'brick wall' with regards to my McConville ancestors in Ireland. I also have conflicting records which mention Rathfriland and also Co Armagh and Co Down. I have listed the information that I have so far gleaned from various sources and hope someone can provide me with further information. Many thanks. Lynne Roberts (lynne.roberts@nd.edu.au)
MCONVILLE
PARENTS: ANTHONY MCCONVILLE (1) (deceased before 1855) was married to SARAH O’HAGAN.
They had at least three sons (birth dates could be around 1820 – 1830).
JAMES MCCONVILLE was married in Ireland to MARY ANN MCCONVILLE (her parents were PATRICK and ANN MCCONVILLE). They arrived in Australia in January 1853 on ‘James Brown’.
ANTHONY MCCONVILLE (2) arrived in Australia in May 1855 on ‘Mermaid’. He subsequently married ELIZABETH MCCONVILL* in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia on 23 February 1857. Her parents were JOHN and MARY ANNE (nee MCGUINNESS) and they (parents) were married in Banbridge Parish, Co DOWN in November 1835. Both ANTHONY’S Marriage and Death Certificates state he was born in Co DOWN.
ISAAC MCCONVILLE was married to MARY MCCONVILLE. Her parents were EDWARD and ELIZABETH MCCONVILLE. ISAAC and MARY travelled to Australia, together with their infant daughter MARY on ‘The Conrad’. ISAAC was listed on the shipping records as being 28 years old, a labourer, RC, could read and write. MARY (his wife) was listed as being 26 years old. They were both listed as being natives of ARMAGH.
* ELIZABETH MCCONVILL travelled to Australia with ISAAC MCCONVILLE and his little family. She was listed as being 17 years old and a domestic servant.
The three brothers came out to Australia from Rathfriland, Co DOWN.

Hi Anthony McConville is my 3 x GreatGrandfather. His Daughter Catherine married Hugh Higgins and they moved to Scotland. The family is still here. I don't know if this helps.
