I am trying to find details of my great great grandparents marriage. They were John Sullivan born in Buttevant around 1820 and Johanna Collins born around 1826. They were married in the mid 1840s. I am hoping you have details of this marriage

Thank you

  • Dear Margaret

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

As you can see from the link below, Buttevant is a Civil Parish in Co. Cork:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/townlands/index.cfm?fuseaction…

Records for the corresponding Roman Catholic Parish of Buttevant begin in 1814.

There are some places where you can search online, however these websites do not have complete collections and many do not cover the period after 1900:

www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.

There is one marriage for a John Sullivan listed on the site for the year 1841. You could have a look at this to see if it is relevant. As I say, it is a subscription site, but as there is only 1 record it is a good idea to have a look. From there you can try to locate batism records for any of their children. Let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Margaret

Interesting comparison here as I'm wanting to locate a marriage between Helena (Ellen) Collins (b. Co.Limerick) and a Jeremiah Sullivan (b. Cork?). I've found Baptism records of their first 3 children (sons) born 1848, 1851 and 1854 in Parish/District BANTEER, Co. Cork before their emigration to South Australia 1854/5. Do you know the name of your Johanna Collins' father or mother? Ditto, for John Sullivan?

    Regards
