Hi I am looking for Samual Conniss dob abt 1821 poss Clifden Galway he married a Jane Best unsure when. They moved to Scotland not sure if this was after they married they lived in Lanarkshir later in Middlesex then back to Scotland by 1873 ,and I have found the birth of a child in 1853 in Scotland , It is Samuals Irish family I am looking for .

Records for the Roman Catholic Parish of Omey and Ballindoon (Clifden) begin in 1838 for baptisms and 1839 for marriages. There are some missing dates in the mid-1850s however. If, as you say, Samuel was born in 1821 there will be no church record of his baptism in if he born there.
I searched www.rootsireland.ie but could not find any record of a marriage for Sameul and Jane in Co. Galway. This may mean that the records are lost, that they married in a parish before records exist or that they married in the UK/Scotland as you suspect.
What record do you have of the spelling of the name, do you have an actual record listing it? In the meantime I will speak to a volunteer in a neighbouring parish about the spelling of the name.

Hi Clare thankyou for your reply . Like you i could not find him in roots ireland . I have found the name spelt Coneys , Coniss,Conis, Conniss.
The family appear to have spent periods living in both Ireland and Scotland this has caused problems tracking them down.
