Dear Susanne
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I had a quick look at www.rootsireland.ie but could not see any baptism record for a James McNally between 1830 and 1850. Neither could I see a marriage record for McNally and Hoath. There is one marriage record that is slightly too early in 1852 for a James McNally in Cork with a wife first name Mary. As this is a subscription site I am limited in what I can see. As you know that Mary?s surname was Hoath, I doubt this is the correct record. You may have to consider that James was born and married in a parish at a time that predates the parish records.
I didn?t see any baptism records for children of James and Mary. Perhaps they were all born in Canada? There is one record on the Griffith?s Valuation for the Parish of Kilcatherine in 1852 for a Michael McNally. There would be no way to know for sure though, if this Michael is a relative of your James:
Have you already tried searching the message boards and family trees on ancestry.com for mention of a James McNally?
Best wishes

I may have gotten the birth date wrong based on more recent finds. I now think is birth date is about 1819. He may have been married twice. First to Rebecca Wallace and then to Mary Hoath. He is so hard to find.

Dear Susanne
If you check out the site I mentioned above, www.rootsireland.ie you will be able to search for a baptism record there based on your new info. There will be no birth record available as births were not registered with the State until 1864 and afterwards.
Let us know how you get on
Best wishes
