I have been researching various lines of Slineys in the Aghada, Midleton, Cloyne, Ballycotton area.  Trying to sort out the various lines and the connections between them.

Part of the basis of this is to identify which of a number of possible candidates was the John Sliney who married Catherine Duggan on 18 Feb 1844 in Aghada Parish.  These are my ggg-grandparents.  The marriage record lists his address as Union which I have been told could mean anywhere in the Union of Aghada.  My attention keeps coming back to a family of Slineys that lived in Whitewell and/or Crocane in the Rostellan area, which seems to meet the definition of within the "Union" of Aghada.  In Griffiths Valuation they are listed in Crocane.  If you identify them on the Ordinance Survey Map the location is at Whitewell, specifically Whitewell Cross area - a small cluster of houses opposite a gate lodge on the east edge of Rostellan Demesne.  In 1821 there is a John Sliney born to a John Sliney and Mary Walsh and the address is listed as "W Well" in the IFHF database - I take this to mean Whitewell.  John and Mary Walsh had the following children: Thomas 1815, Richard 1817, William 1819, John 1821, Mary 1824, Bridget 1827, Margaret 1829, Catherine 1831, Michael 1834.

In many respects this family resembles a household in the Parish Census of Midleton from 1842 but listed in the transciption I have seen as being in Ballinacurra (household of John Sliney, cornbuyer) ( http://www.igp-web.com/igparchives/ire/cork/census/ballinacurra.txt ).  Here is my question:  Is it possible that the "definition" of Ballinacurra applied in that Census could have reached as far south as Whitewell Cross?  Another possibility:  in Griffiths Valuation there are Slineys listed in Ballynacorra and other environs of Midleton and also, a Bridget Sliney in Scartlea Lower in Garranekinnefeake, even closer to Whitewell.

Does anyone have any thoughts?
