The only information I have on my great grand-father Edmond Daly is that he was born in County Cork in 1824

  • Elaine,

Many thanks for the information. The only other information I can add is some family tree work my brother did many years ago. I have attached the Irish part of this.

My grandfather Edmound Brehon, emigrated to Australia some time in the lates 1800's as my father Francis Joseph Daly his brother and two sisters were all born in Essendon (a suburb of Melbourne).

    Thanks again for your efforts.

    Best Wishes

Full civil registration started in Ireland in 1864. I looked for an 1864 civil birth index record for Edmond but there was no record, There was an 1865 record in the Cork registration district. I have no idea if this is your relative. You can geta copy of this record from the General Registration Office for around 4 euros. If you plan to get a copy, let me know and I will forward instructions.

  • Roger,

Thank you for the response.Would obtaining a copy of the record indicate the actual parish in Cork for this Edmond Daly ???? If so, I would be grateful to get instructions on how to.

    Many Thanks

The record would show the townland the family lived in. The townland would allow you to determine the civil parish. I have a book with the master list of townlands so you can ask me, Insturctions below.

Go to this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx In the middle of the page there are links for birth, marriage or death certificates. Hit the link for the form you want. You will likely get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. (This is a program bug that the GRO has to correct). Hit cancel and the appropriate form should come up. Print the form and complete the requested information. Also provide the information from the index record--quarter/year of the event, registration district and the volume and page number where the event is recorded. Make sure you ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. ( A cert costs closer to 20 euros). You can also ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back to you.
