Greetings from New Mexico. I am researching the parents of my Greatgrandmother Elen Fitzgerald, whom I knew as a child. She emigrated to New York in 1901 and listed her last residence as flin on the ship's manifest. I looked at the Irish Census of 1901 and saw her listed as living in Attyflin with her parents William and Mary Fitzgerald. Born 1881. She was the only child listed so I guess she was the youngest.
I have no documentation on her mother Mary's maiden name but I am fairly certain from family talk that it was Healy (sp). William and Mary had other children but the only other one I can document is Hanorah who emigrated to Australia some years earlier. Others may have been Thomas, Bridget , Ann and who knows?
Elen returned with two of her chidren Margaret (4) and Mary (2) in 1906 to visit and give birth to her third child William O'Keefe. On the voyage back to NY she listed her last residence as Abbeyfeale and always spoke of living there. Is Attyflin in your parish? It is so close to Limerick.
Any information you have on the history and background of William and Mary would be greatly appreciated. In fact I appreciate you simply reading this request.

Brian:
Attyflin is in Killonahan civil parish which is about 50 kilometers to the northeast of Abbeyfeale so they were not close particularly for the early 1900s.
You may want to try 2 sites to look for church or civil birth index records for the children.
www.rootsireland.ie which is a pay site to view transcriptions ( I looked for the William and Mary marriage record with no success).
www.irishgenealogy.ie which is a free site and has the civil index records for births starting in 1864. There are a number of Ellen Fitzgeralds in the Limerick registration district. I did not know her year of birth.

Thanks Roger.
I updated the post with Elen's birth year and baby William's surname. I'll try the other parish.

Hi bheyler,
I've been reading your post of 2014 and replying now in 2023 so hoping you are still checking this thread!
I live in Abbeyfeale and have been researching William and Mary Fitzgerald only recently. I've tracked their family through the censuses and also through the Parish Register here. Mary's own name was indeed Healy and it looks like she may have been a sister of my own great-grandmother Eliza Healy. The Fitzgeralds lived in Ballybehy North in Abbeyfeale. If you would like me to post further information here please let me know - chances are you've found all the info by now!
Best Wishes
