Looking for any information on Larkin family of Rathangan. Catherine Maragaret Larkin, bapt. 1839 mother Margaret Walsh, father Lawrence Larkin; siblings John, Mary and ?. Catherine left Ireland and ended up in Australia. Hoping to clarify Rathangan, as this name appears in multiple parish names.

Hi Michele The only record of the baptism of Catherine Larkin in Wexford on www.rootsireland.ie/ is 1836 but the parents aren't Lawrence or Margaret The parish is Killanerin RC There is a public member tree on ancestry which has Catherine Margaret Larkin born 1842 RATHGIN Wexford parents Thomas Larkin and Mary ??? (These parents' names don't work with the Kilanerin record above) Closest I could find for Rathgin is Rathgar which is in Dublin. According to google there is a Rathanagan in both Wexford & Kildare! There are no Larkins in either county in the Tithe Applotments 1823-37 However there are lots in Griffiths Valuation 1848-64 (free online) and there is 1 in RATHANAGAN in KILDARE Rathanagan is in the list of parishes for the Kildare records on rootsireland and there are some Larkin birth/baptism records for Larkins from Kildare but none from Rathanagan RC or C of I!! Michelle:
Following up on the great leads from Col, I did find a Rathangan townland in Duncormick civil parish in Co. Wexford.,I obtained the 1853 Griffiths Valuation for that parish. There is a Mary Larkin listed in Rathangan.

This relates to the Ancestry tree that Col located with an 1842 Catherine with parents named Thomas and Mary. If Thomas had died before 1853 then Mary would have been the lease holder of the land. ( I recognize that you are looking for Lawrence and Margaret as parents).
Roots Ireland has only 6 RC parishes online and does not have Rathangan parish (which is the Catholic parish corresponding to Duncormick). A research book I have says that Rathangan records go back to 1803. You may want to contact the church to see if they can help.

Thank you for your kind help Col. Her death certificate notation of birthplace being Wexford, Ireland would have been provided by relatives. Her husband (married here) was Prussian and they lived in a remote area. This infers limited confusion or errors that can sometimes occur on death certificate notifications when spouses have similar origins, with oral histories melding in the memories of informants. I think I will first explore Wexford possibilities. These family names are contained within the following link http://www.igp-web.com/igparchives/ire/wexford/churches/rathanga01.htm. It seems to match, however I don't know how accurate this information would be. Thank you again - much appreciated. Michelle

Hi Roger - sorry if this duplicates as my first reply appears to have failed. The Lawrence Larkin shown in the first link you provided is very promising given information contained inhttp://www.igp-web.com/igparchives/ire/wexford/churches/rathanga01.htm
Some fuzzy oral history suggested Catherine's mother was Welsh, however the information contained within the link potentially clarified this with Margaret's maiden name being "Walsh". I feel that the church link you also provided would be a great starting point.
