Hello. I am trying to find out more information about the McElnay family. John McElnay born 1817. One of his children Marianne McElnay birth certificate says Farnman, Cavan as place of birth. John was a RIC member, later a grocer. He married Maria Benson in 1862. I think they stayed in the area. I have reason to believe his other daughter Elizabeth Jane was buried in Kilmore Cemetary, but they were Presbyerterian. Any help you could provide would be very welcome and appreciated.

Hi Coleen
I assume you are aware that this family appears in the 1901 Irish Census (free online)?
However there are none in the 1911 census
There are only 3 death/burial records for McEnlay after 1911 on www.rootsireland.ie/ but none in Cavan
There are no baptism/borth or marriage records for McElnay on rootsireland
There are no McElnays in the Tithe Applotments 1823-37 (free) but there are 11 in Griffiths Valuation 1848-64 (free) but all in Monaghan!
You might try the Irish phone book to see if there are any McElnays in Cavan now who you could write to
