Reids of Dublin, Lusk, and Skerries

Elizabeth, Archibald and their children are listed at N.C.R. (North Circular Road) Dorset St, Dublin city in 1901 census, all the children are listed as born Dublin City, Elizabeth as Co. Dublin and Archibald as 'Gibralter, Spain' - see : this link

Here the family in 1911 on the same street in Dublin city. Archibald is retired, and his son Alexander is working for the Irish Land Commission

Church of Ireland baptism records dont usually include mother's maiden surname, so you would need to trace back the McKibben children and check for a possible marriage of their parents.

I had a search for McKibben children to give a possible timeline for the marriage of their parents, and found six, all Holmpatrick/Skerries Church of Ireland parish, with the earliest in 1844. No sign of a marriage for the parents in Skerries or nearby that I was able to find..

There's a listing in Thom's 1868 under the Skerries section for 'Alex McKibbin, farmer, Ballcunnin', which is the name of a townland just south west of Skerries and in Lusk civil parish.

Thank you so much for all of your investigating.  I did not know where the Reids lived and the Spain bit for Archibald is interesting.  My husband and I viewed the former McKibben family farm & house in Skerries last year - it is across the street from Leinster Hydraulics (Longfield, Balcunnin, Skerries).  That was where our last known McKibbens resided - brother and sister Jane (AKA Jean Scott) and James Nelson, both passed in 1970.  They were the children of Alex McKibben and Jane Andrew Scott.  Alex and my g-g-grandmother Mary Jane were 2 of the children of Alexander McKibben and "Ann".  The son Alex married Jane Andrew Scott in Kilkeel, Co. Down so I thought perhaps Alexander and Ann might have come from that way originally.  But without Ann's maiden name I have not had much luck finding a marriage record.  Not exactly unique names - I found many Alexander McKibbens in Co. Down at one time.  Alex, Jane, and their children Jane and James Nelson are buried in Holmpatrick Cemetery.  Alex's headstone lists his parents, but they seem to be added at the time his headstone was made.  So I am doubting that they are buried there.  Anyway, thank you for your help with the puzzle!

On the Tithe records (c1827 for this area) there are some slightly closer McKibbin properties listed in Co. Meath.. see : here  (Note : not every property was liable for Tithe payments, so some areas were not covered.)  Enniskeen civil parish mentioned on the list is in North Co. Meath and bordering Co. Cavan, but still nearer than Co. Down.

Dont know if you've already seen.. in the Skerries section of Thom's 1848 directory there's a mention of an 'Arch. Reid, master gunner R.A. '  (3rd column and 2/3rds of the way down the page). The military connection could explain why the family were in Gibraltar.

Archibald was born in Gibraltar where his father , also Archibald, was serving in the Royal Artillery. He had a younger brother and sister, the brother drowned in Skerries and the sister married and went to America. Archibald and Elizabeth (Lizzy) married in Lusk Church of Ireland and are buried in St. Georges Parish Graveyard off Whitworth Road, Drumcondra, Dublin. Edward, my grandfather, was the only child to have married, he died in 1962 and is buried in Mount Jerome Cemetery, Robert (Bobby) Anna (Cissy) and Mary (Didi) being also buried in St. Georges Graveyard.
