Peter Vance. I saw your message of March of this year about your Vance family from Oghill in Drumkeeran in County Fermanagh. I live in the Unted States and we have a Vance Family YDNA site. Your family is related to my Vance family from Scotland and then from Ireland. On the YYDNA site we are listed as Vance Family 2a. You may know this already. Our extended family came from Ennishowen in County Donegal, Strabane in County Tyrone and Oghill in County Fermanagh. I am descended from a Mathew Vance who came from Ireland but I am still trying to find out where he came from in Ireland. He had a brother John Vance and sisters - Margory Vance in American Colonies with them and Nellie Smyth/Smith who remained in Ireland. As I researched your family I saw that some of them went to Australia and another group went to Canada and are now in Maine, USA. I would like to correspond with you if you would like. Dear Peter Vance
I am not sure if my Vance family is related to your family but my connection is through John William Vance who married Olivia Johnson and they immigrated from County Laois to Australia (Queensland) as free settlers in 1860.

Carol

Peter Vance, I sent a message to you some time ago and you may or may not have received it. Now I do know that you are related to our Vance 2a family. We have a member related to us and more closely to you who is descended from William Vance from Oghill Drumkeeran County Fermanagh. You may be pleased to know that there is a dairy and ice cream parlor flourishing at the Oghill townland. A Mr. Gray is the owner. A Gray family lived at Oghill townland very early on and they intermarried with the Vance family there. Also some Gray and Vance families plus others went to Australia from Oghil and the area in the early 1800's. I would like to know if you are the Peter Vance from Wigtonshire Scotland or from Australia. I think YDNA will prove your kinship to us. Thank you. I look forward to hearing from you. Hi, I was googling "William Vance Fermanagh" and I came across this thread. Thank you to Marilyn for your informative post. I am a descendant of William and Jane (nee Sproule?) Vance, and perhaps the Gray family you mention as well. Their daughter Isabella Vance married George Gray and emigrated to Australia in 1841. Their daughter Isabella Gray, my great-great-grandmother, was born on the voyage. I would love to compare autosomal DNA results, my test results are posted on Ancestry (jfunderburk73), Family Tree DNA, and Gedmatch (A062495).
Thanks,

Hey Jeff,
I just came across this cite when i googled "oghill". I was trying to learn where my ancesters came from.
Wiliam and Jane had a son, Thomas, Before going to Austrailia and I am a descendent of him.
I'd love to know more about this scottish Vance side that I read about.
p.s. William Vance was a flax seed farmer for an Ulster corperation (thanks ancestry leaves).
