I am looking for information on Daniel Horgan who died in 1854, I think.  I believe he may have left a will but I can't find it.  He seems to have been in the "landed estates" list, whatever that is.  If this is the one I am looking for (my 3rd great grandfather) he married Catherine Callahan around 1825. They had at least two daughters Catherine and Ellen and perhaps a son, Jeremiah.  Any guidance would be appreciated!  I thought this was in the. Macroom parish section but I see I don't have that choice???  He was from Macroom

Thank you.  Sue

  • Dear Sehaines

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I have forwarded your query to a volunteer in a neighbouring parish, I hope you will hear back soon

  • I am not sure how my request for Daniel Horgan got into this parish?  As I don't think he was from there. As an aside, my 3rd great grandparents, Jeremiah and Ellen Mahony O'Neil/ Neal were from Cullenagh.

Daniel Horrigan and Catherine Callahan were named as such on the death certificate of their daughter, Ellen, who died in New Haven, CT in 1906.  I suspect the names are as "correct" as the family knew them.  Catherine Callahan was in Wales with another daughter in 1871 so I imagine that Daniel died prior to that, but how much before I don't know.  The daughters were born in the late 1820s and early 30s.

as for parish I have no idea.  I do know that Ellen married (in Wales) a William Hickey who very possibly was from Dromtarriff. Macroon is "near" there so I just made a guess.

    Thank you for trying!
