I have been doing research and have found that I am related to former Kings of Leinster.  I have traced my Cavanaugh lines to as far back as a Fiachu Ba Haiccid MacCathai'r Be'lach, Mar  ( before the year 436).  I do show that I am related to the former King of Leinster a Diarmait MacMurchada  b: 26 June 1110  d: 1 May 1171.  Ancestry.com has him listed as being buried at Cathedral Graveyard of Ferns Village in County Wexford.     I was wondering if there is anyone out there who shares my family lines, and who may have more information for me on my family tree?

  • Cookie I think you might be surprised how many people are related to Diarmait Mac Murchada one way or another.  According to my familytree he was my  24th cousin 33 times removed. Of course we have to take this all with a pinch of salt as there were no records and we can only go by written references without the ultimate evidence.

One of my historian friends and another couple of people have created his tree as accurate as possible see here http://www.geni.com/people/Dermot-II-MacMurrough-King-of-Leinster/60000…

A DNA test would give better results but getting DNA from Diarmait might be a slight problem

As far as I know he was buried in Chapter House, Gloucester Cathedral
