Brigid Fagan was born in Robinstown Navan Co Meath in 1842. Both Brigid and her daughter Caroline were living in Kishavanna Carbury Co Kildare when they died within a week of each other. Their graves are in Derrinturn Cemetary. Caroline was married to Thomas Fitzsimons and they had two children Patrick and Peg. They were small children when their parents died. Patrick was my father and he was born at the pub and shop at Derrinturn. He remembered living there over the pub. Thomas Fitzsimons emigrated to New York after Caroline died and Patrick went to live with Caroline's sister Elizabeth in Harristown, Co Meath. Peg went to live with Denis and Sara Horan. Peg became a nurse in England and died in Cambridge England in the 1980's. Caroline's son Patrick was a sargent in the irish army and he returned to the farmhouse where his mother died at Kishavanna Carbury when he left the army and was farming there until 1963 when he sold the farm and moved to live in Glasnevin in Dublin. He died in 1989 and is buried in Derrinturn. Patrick married Mary O Connor from Harristown Co Meath and had five children. Tom. Caroline, Rita, Philip and Pat. Tom, Caroline and Rita live in the Castleknock area of Dubln, Pat emigrated to Winnipeg Canada and I am Philip and I live in Kells, Co Meath. My Dad told me he knew Henry Hurst who was nicknamed Hid, he told me that Hid was a good friend of Fr Maher, the parish priest of Derrinturn and they used to go on walks together. Hid emigrated to Australia and married Aunt Mag. He was a police officer in Australia. They used to come home to visit their relations in Ireland. I was told that Hid died on the boat an his return to Australia after one of these visits to ireland. I remember Caroline's sister Elizabeth. She married Peter Whelan and they bought a farm in Harristown Co Meath. She sold the farm after Peter died and she lived in Bray Co Wicklow. She is buried in Derrinturn. The other sister Sara was married to Denis Horan and they lived in Terenure in Dublin. I would be happy to hear from anyone who has more information about the Fagan family from Robinstown Co Meath. or the Fitzsimons Family. I know that Thomas Fitzsimons was born in Moyvalley Co Meath and his father was Patrich Fitzsimons who was steward at the More O Farrell estate in Moyvalley Co Meath and Patrick was born in the Virginia area of Cavan

Hello Phil
Just read your very welcome posting on Ireland Reaching Out and you have described the family I have been researching. Two of Bridget Fagan's brothers (Patrick born about 1829 and Laurence born about 1840) immigrated to Australia. There was a Jane Fagan and Richard Fagan baptised in Dunderry and they are the sister and brother of Bridget Fagan as well. I have never discovered where Richard Fagan ended up, but Jane Fagan married Patrick Sherlock and had a pub in Ludlow Street, Navan. Patrick was married with 13 children and they all came over. Laurence Fagan immigrated and was married in Brisbane to Fanny Cruise from Tullamore, Co. Offaly. The Fagan family are all buried in Brisbane, Queensland. Laurence was my great grandfather whose son Joseph was my grandfather. I have been trying to find a baptismal certificate for Laurence and Bridget but haven't had any luck. I had an idea they may have been born in Robinstown but have never found any records. If you care to contact me, my email is marie_marinelli@iinet.net.au and I could tell you something of the Fagan family here in Australia. Thank You again Marie M.MarieM
