  • Walter:

Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie has an 1831 baptismal record for a Mary McKenna with parents Richard and Anne Conlon. The record is in the Dundalk RC church records. Roots is a pay site and they now require that you geta subscription to view a transcription of church records.

There are also two other McKenna children baptismal records with parents Richard and Anne Conlon between 1826-1836. Without the first name, Roots does not allow you to verify the parish.

I also looked at the 1854 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Dundalk parish. There was a Richard McKenna living on Jocelyn Street in the town.

I now have a full Roots subscription and found four children of Richard McKenna and Anne Conlon all baptized in Dundalk RC church. The transcription records are below. Hopefully, Walter is aware of this reply.

  • Thanks for the information Roger! I've only just discovered this site :) I too am looking for information regarding Richard McKenna and Ann Conlon as my anscestor is also Mary McKenna who emigrated to New South Wales on the John Bunyan in 1857. At the time her parents were still living in Dundalk. Mary was born there 24 years earlier. I realise this is a very belated reply but like Walter, I have no information much at all of the family outside Australia.

    Thanks

  • Thank you so much Roger. I really do appreciate you finding this!

Our Mary McKenna married David Hartnett in the RC Church of St Michael and John in Bathurst NSW on 15 Jul 1861. David had been transported here as a convict in 1831 for vagrancy in Cork. He's another one I know nothing of in Ireland .. but that's another story!

Unfortunately I don't know Walter but I think he may be in my tree listed as "Wally". I will follow that up and see if I can contact him and let him know what you have found if he doesn't reply here.

    Again, Thanks!

    regards, Valda
