I am looking for information about my great-great grandmother, Mary Sullivan who, according to lore, was born in April 1844 in Dromtarriff. None of the search engines confirm this. I was wondering what other ways there are to prove who she was and where she came from. Any help would be greatly appreicated.

There?s a copy of the Dromtarriff parish records in the National Library, Dublin. LDS also have a copy on microfilm which you could order in to your nearest LDS library: British Film Area 0883884 item 5; 0883696 13. You could double check those.

Irishgenealogy shows one Mary Sullivan born in 1844 (April 7) in Coolchuleer, parents Daniel Sullivan and Ann Murphy (witnesses: Timothy Buckley and Mary Murphy). I may have found a Mary Murphy in Dromtarriff who is my 3rd grandmother.

Wow!! Those are my great-great grandmother's parents. I wonder why I could not find that, or why I have the parish wrong. Thank you so much!

Hi, perhaps you didn't find them because Dromtarriff is one of those parishes which seems to be in Cork but the parish is in Kerry. So on irishgenealogy, if you search by location you have to go to Kerry first. Don't ask me how I found this out - or what other parishes might be in the same boat, but such is the case. Do you "know" the Mary Murphey who was a sponsor? There are probably loads of them, but it could be my 3th or so greatgrandmother (who married Denis Hickey. Sue

Thank you! However, as I think about it more, my grandmother always told us that the family all came from Cork. So while those names you mentioned are what I have as her parents, I don't know how to reconcile that with the fact that the town you mention is not in Cork. I am going to have to research this further! I'm not sure where my mother got Drmotarriff from, at any rate. As a side note, everything I have read suggests Dromatarriff is in Cork.

Don't dispare - irishgenealogy is the only place where I have seen Dromtarriff listed as Kerry. My ancestors also are from Cork. This am I was searching the tithes (a National Archives site) and apparently my 3rd gr grandfather (the one from Keale, Dromtarriff) is in Cork. Interestingly the parish there was Cullen. More mysteries. Shortly I am going to ask on one of the other lists what is going on. But, if the names are right for you I'd say is it probably Cork. By the way I started searching for some connection between our two families but didn't seem to find anything. Sue

Hi, me again, first of all, I need to correct "dispare" to dispair! Ooops, sorry about that. From all I can gather Cullen is the civil parish and Dromtariffe the RC parish. Part of the RC parish (Dromtarriff) is indeed in Kerry.
I am interested in your Mary Murphy as that is the name of my 3th great grandmother. I am sure it is a common name. I keep finding a William Murphy as wittness to my 3rd great grandparents marriage and at the births of 3 or 4 of their children. Still working on this. Sue
