Good Morning,
My 3 x great grandmother, Anne FOLEY born 1815, Ferns, travelled to Australia in 1840. Her brother, Timothy, also said to be born 1815, Ferns, travelled to Australia in 1954 with his wife, Mary Connor.
Both Anne and Timothy have listed their parents as Murtagh FOLEY and Margaret TWOMBLEY/TWOMLY.No birth, marriage or deaths are known for these.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks
Susan

Susan:
The church records for Ferns RC parish are not available online through Roots Ireland.
You may be aware that the National Library will be providing the RC parish registers for free online searching sometime in the summer of 2015. Ferns RC records start in 1819.
I looked at the 1824 Tithe Applotment listings and the only Foley listed for Ferns parish was Christopher Foley in Ballybeg townland. He was leasing 20 acres.

I also looked at the 1853 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Ferns and found two Foley entries: Charistopher in Ballybeg and Timothy in Ballybeg. Possibly the Timothy is the brother of Anne and Christopher is an older relative-- uncle?

Thanks Roger, As you say possibly my Timothy. I have never found much to prove the small amount of information that I have and hopefully more records will become available. Susan

Hi there
Christopher Foley was my great grandfather and he had three children
Bill Foley who married Statia O'Rourke
Catherine Foley who married Myles O'Rourke ( my grandparents)
Mary Foley who married Peter Kavanagh
I have no idea of the history prior to that but do know where the family grave from that era is so will try see if there is any Timothy mentioned

Just to add to the mix!
My gandfather was James Foley who lived in Bunclody, married to Jane Byrne.
It is believed he came from a farming family of Foley's in Monasootagh.
I have found a Daniel Foley,- 43 ,wife Kate 43 and 2 children Sarah 6, Denis 2, who lived at 16 Enniscorthy Road, Upper Ferms. (Census 1911)
I know Daniel Foley is the elder brother of my grandfather James as their children Sarah and Denis are the same names as my mother and uncle.
Sarah Foley eventually married Ned Butler and they had a farm in Ferns which I used to visit when I was a child.
I have just found a Denis Foley in Monasootagh (Griffins Valuation) published 1853 and I believe they are all related.
So we may be related too!
