Hello, I am searching for any information regarding my Great Grandmother Anna Connelly, later Johnson of Rochester, New York. I do not know any of my family history prior to her save for the fact that she was somehow related to former President Emon DeValera and was invited to state dinners with him in the United States because of this relation.
I found some info on this site in regards to Catherine Coll's sister Anna Coll marrying a man named Patrick J. Connelly in Rochester, with my Great Grandmother's dates suggesting that she could be one of their reported 5 children, but I am unsure if this is the case. Any assistance or infromation on my family history would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.

Jake:
Do you have Catherine Connelly Johnson' death record and does it show her parents names? Do you have the marriage record for Patrick Connelly and Anna Coll? I was unable to find a marriage record in Ireland. de Valera's Coll family came from Bruree in Co. Limerick.

I do not have Anna Connelly Johnson's death record. All I have is what is reported through my family and also infromation on the message at www.irelandxo.com/node/11343. Should I try posting within the Limerick page?

Jake:
No need to post in Limerick at this time. Let me check with Clare Doyle, our Heritage Resource Manager, to see if she can contact the person ( Ruth Williams) who posted the message back in 2012. Maybe she would have info.

Hello Jake and LLOCBLR
I am Donie O Sullivan ,living near Mallow and I have connections with the DeValera/Coll names. My great grandmother was a Catherine Coll from Fedamore parish and near Bruree..DeValeras mother was also a Catherine Coll and my ancestors maintained they nwere cousins and this was bourne out by the fact that my family were regularly in touch with Eamon DeValera when he was leader of the country and muy crowd had a number of lorries on the road during the second world war ,I have tried to pin down the exact relationship but failed.I know my catherines parents were Thomas and mary ryan who married in Fedamore parish in 1852. and lived out their lives there.Any info I can get on any relationship with the Colls would be gratefully welcome.Edward Coll who brought E.deValera back to Ireland seems to have emigrated to the USA and I hazard a guess that it Jakes connection to deValera originates from him or from Catherine herself. Not much guidance here.
i attach a photo of my catherine and added one of DeValera and his Mother catherine when both were about 80 and the similarity is noticeable

Hello Everyone!
If any of you have not already done so with the ancestors that you have listed in the above thread, please consider adding them to the XOChronicles (tab at the top of this page). I think that with the number of shared families between yourselves, the Ancestor profiles would have a big impact on your research. The link for the profile is here: https://irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy
Any questions, please let me know. The best of luck to all of you with your new connections and your further research. If any of you who are abroad are planning on travelling to Ireland next year, please let us know. We can arrange for a local volunteer to meet with you during your stay.
Kind regards,
Jane

Hi there,
I too have hit a brick wall while tracing my family line. My great great grandmother was Catherine Coll, who was from Belview, which I believe is located between Banogue and Bruree. She was born in 1838.
Catherine's father was either James Coll or Edmund James Coll, and her mother was either Anna or Bridget. (On her wedding day, one of the witnesses was Bridget Coll.)
Some of Catherine's family is laid to rest at the old Anhid cemetery in Croom. There are two headstones. One is in memory of Edmund James Coll (1816-1895), Edmund O'Shaughnessy (RIP 1951) and Catherine O'Shaughnessy (RIP 1942). The neighbouring headstone, which was erected by Patrick Coll, is in memory of 'his affectionate brother', James Coll (RIP 1869) and their mother, Anne Coll (RIP 1881).
I only learned about the Coll family connection recently. There was as rift in my mother's family (which had to do with politics -no surprise there!), and it is only lately that I have been able to join the dots. If anyone can throw any light on the connections, I would really appreciate it! I know that Patrick and James were, like Catherine, born in the 1830s.
All suggestions really appreciated!!
Thank you.
Evie
