I am seeking information about my earliest documented ancestor Patrick Brennan, a teacher who lived in the Parish of Bumlin in or near the town of Strokestown in[H1]  County Roscommon when his son Joesph was born about the year 1802.[i].  Any information you have regarding Patrick, where he was born, who he married, who his ancesters were and how many children he had and names I would be most grateful.

[i] Information taken from an extract of Death Certificate and Pension Records of Joseph Brennan held at the Public

   Records Office in London

[H1]Need to check records at Roscommon for Patrick the teacher and validate Josephs birth date

Unfortunately, RC church records for that area e.g Strokestown do not begin until 1830 so we won't be able to provide additional info regarding Patrick or Joseph Brennan. Neither is listed in the Tithe Applotment listings.

There are no census records in that time period for Co. Roscommon. I would not be optimistic about any records of teachers back to the early 1800s. You could contact the Library in Strokestown to see if they can assist. http://www.roscommoncoco.ie/en/Services/Library/Locations/

I think we might be related! We have traced back to Patrick Brennan as well and then hit a road block. Joseph Brennan is my g, g, g, g, grandfather who left Ireland, 1847, for New Zealand with his family. We don't know Patrick's wife's name or if they had any other surviving children. Due to a lack of documentation prior to 1830 we might be stuck. I have a little more info on Joseph as well the family line once they got to New Zealand. My mother actully has a picture of Joseph,  his wife, Anne, and their daughter on her 21st birthday.  Without going on and on, if any of this sounds right please respond and we can further swap info!!
