Greetings,

     I am searching for my GGgrandfather, Pat Cummins.  He was said to have come from Limerick, but we do not know where.  Several family members have traveled to Ireland on different occasions and come home empty handed.  But that was long ago, so i hope for better results.

     Pat Cummins was born in 1832 and emigrated to America in 1856.  Here, he married and had a large family.  This family was Catholic.  It is thought that his parents were named James and Mary(Hoban) Cummins.

     I have seen numerous tithe records showing the name Cummins in Carigmore, Castletown.  But, of course, i cannot find a census or a baptism to provide any sources.

     I will attach his obit here and welcome any advice or direction.  Thank you.

    FYI. Obit did not attach.

    I looked at the Roots Ireland indexes and found an 1834 baptismal record for a Patrick Cummings (or variant) in St. Patricks RC church in Limerick city. The parents were James and Maria. There were no other baptisms in Co. Limerick for a Patrick with parents James and Mary/Maria. There were a number of RC churches in Co. Limerick who do not have records back to the early 1830s.

    Roots Ireland is a subscription site.

    Later this summer the National Library of Ireland plans to put RC parish registers online for free searching.

         Thank you so much for helping me.  It may very well be him.  I simply do not know.  I also dont understand why i have so much trouble attaching files on this site....

         Can you tell me the subscription cost to Roots Ireland?  Is there a projected date for the church records 'later this Summer'?  Thank you again.  Tom

    Don't know the cost for Roots but I do know you can get a one month subscription Go to www.rootsireland.ie for more info.

    We don't have a more exact date from the National Library. They are digitizing over 1000 parish registers.
