My grandmother, Bridget Mulloy, born January 3, 1898, County Mayo, House 5 Corraun, Bellavary Ireland.  Her father was Edward "Ned" Mulloy and her mother was Honor McKeon.

I am trying to determine if the Patrick and Mary Mulloy in buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Bohola may be my grandmother's brother and sister-in-law.

Additionally, I am seeking burial information on my grandmother's parents Anthony and Honor McKeon (I have Ned and Honor's Marriage record - Date of Marriage March 24, 1887 and the parish district is Keelogues, if this is helpful information.)

I do have a copy of my grandmother's Church Baptism Record and the Parish/District is KEELOGUES.  What is a little unique is that my grandmother is a twin.  Her twin brother is Anthony and that is noted on the Baptism Record.

On the census of 1901 they list the Parish, Kildacommage, Barony, Gallen.

I am travelling to County Mayo in April 2015 and any information would be helpful.

I checked the Roots Ireland indexes and found an 1859 baptismal record for an Honor McKeon in the Keelogues RC parish records. Parents were Matthew and Catherine. There was also an 1857 baptismal record for a Patrick McKeon in the same church with the same parents.

I was not able to find a baptismal record for Edward or Anthony. Some parishes in Mayo do not have record back to the 1850s so possibly Edward came from a parish that did have records back to the 1850s or that parish is not on Roots.

Later this summer the National Library of Ireland plans to put the RC parish registers online for free searching.

The 1856 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Kildacommoge parish. There were five McKeon entries all in Corraun townland including two Matthews. There were five mulloy/Molloy entries but none in Corraun and no Anthony. I'm wondering if Anthony and Edward came from outside the parish and Edward and Honor took over the McKeon farm.

Civil registration started in 1864. I could not find a civil death index record for Anthony but did find a possible record for Honor in the Castlebar registration district.

Let me know what questions you have and enjoy your trip to Ireland.

  • Thank you for this information.  I had always had the impression that Honor (nee McKeon) Mulloy and Edward Mulloy did take over the McKeon Farm from census records.  It was interesting that you should state that.  I need to learn more, if possible, about Honor's siblings.

There is an Anthony McKeon on on the 1856 Census link you provided and I believe this is Honor's father from my research. I believe this to be true because the name Anthony has been carried forward multiple generations in my family.   (In fact, my grandmother, Bridget Mulloy, was a twin and her twin brother was Anthony.)

With that said, Roots Ireland has a Civil Birth Record for Honor McKeon with a baptism/birth date of 12/15/1865 in the Balla District, Lower Corraun, father Anthony McKeon and mother Anne (nee Connor) McKeon.  I'll have to look more closely at the baptism records you point to because Keelogues was a location referenced by my grandmother...I need to learn more.

    Again, thanks.

  • Hello,

I have been researching Mulloys from Donegal. I have seen an Edward Mulloy in Donegal in 1841/1851 census abstracts for Pension Applications. Perhaps this is your man from another parish?
