My great grandmother's sister was named Mary Hearty, the daughter of James Hearty and Mary Martin. Mary was born in Dunbin in 1838 and had the following siblings born in Dunbin:
Thomas, born about 1840; James born about 1840 and Rose born about 1842.
My great grandmother, Mary's sister Catherine was born in Castletown (Dundalk) in 1844.
I am trying to locate information about the Hearty and Martin families and the marriage of James and Mary Martin Hearty in Dunbin. Also were they originally from Dunbin and moved to Castletown, etc. Am interested in any and all information about the family. Mary and Catherine immigrated to New Orleans, La. in the 1850's.
Sincerely yours,
Ronald G. Bourgeois, Sr.

Ronald:
I checked the Roots Ireland indexes and there were three baptismal records in the Haggardstown RC church (corresponds to Dunbin civil parish) and the info matches what you have in your message for Thomas, James and Rose. I also found an 1835 marriage record in the same church for James Hearty and Mary Martin.
Regarding Catherine, the record I found showed a Catherine Hearty born to James and Mary in the Dundalk RC church (which corresponds to Castletown civil parish). However, the year was 1842.
How could the same couple have two daughters baptized in the same year but in different churches? Maybe Rose and Catherine were twins but for some reason they had separate baptisms and for some reason in different churches?
Roots is a subscription site.
Later this summer the National Library of Ireland plans to put the RC parish registers online for free searching.
Let me know if you have questions.

Hi Ronald
I have no further information for you but attach a couple of links that may help with background for you.
Also I checked the current Irish phone book on line under residential and found a Martin family in Dunbin and a number of Hearty families in the Dundalk area, there are other families in Drogheda spelled Harty.
I also checked the tithe applottments and there are some Heartys in Dundalk area in 1833/34 but none in the Flaxgrowers list of 1796 but this is only those farmers growing flax. Oddly there are none in Griffiths Valuation circa 1854 to 1864. The tithe applottments are here http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/index.jsp and the two Louth sites are here
http://www.jbhall.freeservers.com/ and http://www.clahs.com/, to use the 2nd site there is a small annual fee.
I live in Louth and had never heard of Dunbin so it must be fairly small area, however I see there is a Dinbin Little and a Dunbin Big. Search the word in JB Hall Louth Genealogical Services site.
Also it is a civil parish but not a Catholic parish which are apparently larger.
Also this happened in the general area in 1816, see http://www.jbhall.freeservers.com/1816_wildgoose_lodge.htm There is a book available published about 2 years ago.

Hi Ron and Pat,
There are 23 Hartys, and 3 tenants of landlords named Harty, in Co. Louth, including Dundalk and Dunbin, on Griffith's Valuation - the Hearty name was mispelt as Harty on Griffith's Valuation.
You can look up Griffith's Valuation at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml .
Dunbin, Dunbin Little and Dunbin Big lie south west of Dundalk half way between Dundalk and Knockbridge along the R171 Knockbridge Road from Dundalk.

PS Ronald, I hope this finds you well and I have Hearty ancestry and my Hearty ancestors lived in Castletown and Dowdallshill and some of their descendants moved to Dunleer, others to Moyode in Galway, and also to the USA, and there is a real possibility that the Heartys in my ancestry are related to these Heartys of Dunbin.
Since your post in 2015, a lot of family history information has now gone online and is freely searchable, including the microfilms of the church records in the National Library of Ireland (NLI) which are online at registers.nli.ie.
I found out the following information about your Heartys in Dunbin who moved to Castletown in Dundalk between 1842 and 1844, and then they briefly moved back to Dunbin in 1849 before moving to Hill St. in Dundalk in the 1850s.
James Hearty and Mary Martin married in Haggardstown parish on 26th December 1835 and the witnesses were Bryan Smith and Betty Carroll. Mary Martin was from Dunbin and couples usually married in the parish of the bride and the copy of the microfilm that the marriage record is on can be seen at https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000632578#page/118/mode/1up . The Martins in the phone directory who still live in Dunbin today could be direct relatives of Mary Martin Hearty.
James Hearty and Mary Martin had at least 9 children baptised in Haggardstown and Dundalk parishes, and the first four children (Mary, twins James and Thomas, and Rose) were baptised in Haggardstown while the family lived in Dunbin up to 1842, the next two children (Catharine and Michael) were baptised in Dundalk in 1844 and 1846 while they lived in Castletown, the seventh child Patrick Hearty was baptised in Haggardstown in 1849, and when the family moved to Hill Street in Dundalk the last two children, Margaret and James, were baptised in Dundalk in 1852 and 1856 respectively. Older brother James Hearty who was a twin probably died before the birth of younger sibling James in 1856, and younger siblings were often named after older deceased siblings, particularly where the name was an important family name. All of these baptismal records with exact dates can be found on registers.nli.ie.
Your great grandmother Catherine Hearty was baptised in Dundalk on 19th August 1944 (not 1842) and she would have been born in Castletown, Dundalk where the family was living at that time.
Her sister Rose Hearty was not her twin and she was two years older and was born in Dunbin and baptised in Haggardstown on 9th August 1842.
Their oldest sister Mary Hearty/Heirty was born in Dunbin and baptised in Haggardstown on 8th September 1838.
I hope this is a help and stay safe and Happy St. Patrick's Day to you.
Regards, McShane01 from Dundalk.
