Hello
Between 1855 and 1870 my great grandfather and most of his siblings immigrated to Cedar County Iowa, USA from the area of Inchigeelagh. They were Roman Catholic and listed in the parish of Iveleary
They were the children of Daniel and Julia Sweeney Lynch. married 1820 Caharnacaha, Inchigeelagh.
The record of their children's baptisms:
Catherine Lynch same 1820 Caharnacaha
John Lynch same address 1825
Mary Lynch Driscoll b. 1827 same address 1827
Jerimiah Lynch same address 1829
Daniel Lynch Illaneinigh 1831
Juliana Lynch Illaneingh 1833
Margaret lynch Illaneinigh 1835
my great grandfather Michael Lynch b 1843
All immigrated to the US except for Jerimiah and Catherine.
The siblings came, purchased land, built a church and to this day, most of the land is still owned by ancesters. This area became known as Irish Valley. I live in the farm house built on the land purchased by Michael Lynch.
Of all the stories told, the story of their coming to America has not been passed down. I would be appreciative of any information or clues to search that anyone has. Since two siblings ( Catherine and Jerimiah) did not come across, I am hoping to connect with some long lost cousins.

Greetings Marsha,
Could you tell us more about what you know, such as which US Censuses you found them in? Have you found any naturalization papers for any of them? Do you think the siblings all came together, or more of a chain migration? Were any already married when they came? Basically, where have you looked already, online, Family Search, Ancestry.com, etc.?
Sorry for all the questions, just trying to narrow down the possible window, so we can help.
Best of luck, Barb

Marsha:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out! Great story about your family in America.
I assume from the information you already have that you have visited www.irishgenealogy.ie which has church records for the Diocese of Cork and Ross including Iveleary.
I did not see any marriage records for Catherine in that church which is where she would have been married. I'm guessing she either died young or never married. I looked at the civil death index records for the Dunmanway registration district. I was looking for someone born around 1820. The closest I found was a Catherine Lynch born 1828 (according to the informant) and died in 1868. I would just treat this fact as a possible lead. Illauninagh East and West townlands are in the Dunmanway registration district.
There were two Jeremiah Lynch marriages in 1869 and 1871 in Iveleary but the townland was not Illauninagh. I did notice an 1848 marriage for a Denis Lynch from Illauninagh.
It is also possible that Jeremiah got married in a nearby parish if that is where the bride was from.
I checked the 1852 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Inchigeelagh civil parish and there were many Lynch records including five Daniels and four Jeremiahs but none in Illauninagh.
http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/cork/inchigeelagh.htm
I checked the 1901 census records for Illauninagh and there were no Lynch records.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Hello Barb,
I somehow hit something wrong with last message so you may receive this twice. sorry
I have found all the Lynchs on census records. I have researched the family through all the sources you mentioned plus courthouse records, church records, family stories and old newspaper obits
I found Julia Lynch Harley and Mary Lynch Driscoll on the 1860 census but can not tell if they were married in Ireland or Iowa.
I know Daniel came in 1867 and Michael and John came around the same time or a bit later
The last to come was Margaret Lynch Sullivan. I know she was married and had children at the time she came. All other children of her siblings were born in Iowa.
All siblings came from their port of entry directly to Iowa and within a short time owned land.
Margaret and family came to the same place but in a short time moved to Morengo Iowa where John worked on the RR.The immigration was certainly a chain migration but they all seemed intent on settling and farming.
One of the stories I heard was that Jerimiah came with Michael but hated Iowa and returned to Ireland after a year. I am hoping he had a family and I may be able to find relatives.
thanks for any help you may have. Marshamarshahowe

Hello Roger,
thank you for the searches you have done.
the dates in my e-mail were the baptism dates I found by searching www.irishgenealogy
I did find an 1820 marriage for DAniel Lynch and Julia Sweeney, who are the parents.
In Daniel Lynch's obit there is mention of a living sister Mrs. Michael Allen living in Bristol England, so this may be Catherine. I had no luck trying to find her in England. I am sure there were so many Irish who went to the North of England to work.
I have also looked for death records for Daniel but as you noted there are lots of Daniels.
It may also be of interest that this area of Iowa was also settled with Sullivans, McCarthy, Murphy and Driscoll families all from the same area.

I am still researching your area: Inchingeelagh and the parish of Iveleary. I have decided to make a trip to the area and hope to connect with people interested in migration to the US and perhaps, some descendents of the names I listed earlier. I would like to find out more about the parish that Father Jeremiah Holland shepherded in the early to mid 1800s since he was mentioned in Lynch obituaries and several of my relatives attended the school he founded before they left for America.
In general I would like to visit and share history.
