Hello all,
James D'Arcy (Dorsey in the US) was born in 1826, in the parish of Abbington in the South Liberty of the city of Limerick in 1826. Are there any resources to direct me to for confirmation of this? His parents were John D'Arcy and Mary (Lyons, but not confident on the surname).
Many thanks

Brid/Rosario:
I checked the Roots Ireland indexes for Co. Limerick. There is an 1826 baptismal record for a James D'Arcy (or variant) with a father John and mother Margaret. Were they RC or C of I? I will look for the parish when you advise the denomination.

Roger (and Brid),
Please pardon my delay in responding to your query- I certainly value your time.
My James Darcy states in his naturalization testimony that he was "born in the southern liberty of Abington parish in Limerick" birth date, 4 August 1826. The religious denomination is unknown. His parents names are recorded in the US as John and Mary (but there are a voluminous amounts of Mary Margarets here).
I am seeking his port of entry documentation in hopes that it might provide more details.

Hi Dorsey Rosario Naramore,
I have check the local parish records , there is a James Darcy baptised Aug 1826 to a John Darcy and Margaret Heffernan . There is also a Patrick baptised in 1828 to the above parents too.
Hope this helps

Aine,
Thank you for checking on this. I have only recently discovered who my father's biological father was, so I am quite behind in Irish genealogy, so please bear with me.
Does the document list a specific date, or are the registers only listed by monthly baptisms? Is this register with the RC or C of I?
One last question- is there a baptismal entry for a John in say 1827 or 1829? They arrived in the States in 1833, where there is a son named John, but not a Patrick- however, family stories indicate that there was a son named Patrick, but perhaps he passed prior to arrival.
I will be travelling to Limerick this summer and am hopeful that I can pay my respects to one of my ancestral towns.
Thank you,
Dorsey

Aine,
I have discovered that this Marageret and John D'Arcy had both passed away by 1845 in Limerick. This John was originally from Ennis.
I really do appreciate the look up and the responses. It is back to the drawing board for us..
Best,
Dorsey

Aine,
I think that you have identified my family with this record. It turns out that in the US, a daughter of John and Mary (Margaret) named Louisa, went to live with a Heffernan family from Ireland, after John passed away. I surmise that this must be Mary Margaret's brother, Stephen Heffernan, who is also married to a Margaret.
Is there a burial notice for Patrick in the records? He does not show up in the US, however, a brother named John Watson Darcy does, who appears to have been born in 1828-1830, most likely in Limerick as well.
Thank you and Best Regards...

Hi Dorsey ,
I am Delighted that you have identified your family. Unfortunatley the church does not keep death/burial record until well into the 1900's. 1845 would have been too early for the civil records as they came in 1864. You could try searching the local graveyards , these have all been recorded on historcgraves.com , the local graveyard are Abington , Clonkeen , Ballinure and Annagh, you might have some luck there in finding out about Patrick Darcy.
