I am an Australian descendant of the Tighe family (COI), the children were all born between about 1798 and 1814 in Rathbal and baptised at either Ballysakeery or Crossmolina. Their parents were Thomas and Matilda (Matilda #1). Another Matilda (#2), their daughter, was born about 1802 and in 1819 married Henry Tigh of Lackan (perhaps a cousin?). I believe they had a daughter born about 1822, yet another Matilda (#3). I have family letters dating back to the 1830's which finds the parents, Thomas and Matilda #1, living with their daughter Matilda #2 and her husband Henry at Rathlackan, but mysteriously, Henry Tigh seems to have been replaced by Henry Robinson. There are 2 more childen, Robinsons, I believe. Matilda #2 dies in 1837, leaving Henry with their 2 children, and her daughter, Matilda # 3.
When Matilda #1 dies in 1871 at the grand age of 95 (buried at Rathfran), outliving all her children, the informant listed on her burial record is Charles Robinson. I thought he might have been a grandson, but a marriage record of a Charles Robinson in the right age group (to Esther) states that his father is Phillip Robinson, not Henry.
I have good evidence for some of these details, but I have also had to make a few deductions. COI Parish records for Kilcummin/Lackan are largely lost for this time period.
Does anyone know anything about the Tighe and Robinson families at Rathlackan?
regards, Louise
P.S. Thanks to member Col who answered my original request in January to locate this family's origins in Ballysakeery, I have made fantastic progress since then

Martha & Matilda?
Looks like Francis & Thomas were twins - maybe Thomas died so another child was named Thomas to replace him.
I couldn't find a marriage record of Thomas (parents)
The Tithe Applotments have 60 Tighes in Mayo - some in Crossmolina 1827-33 & 26 Robinsons http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/ There are none in the early Irish censuses however. Col

Thanks again for your interest Col. These were the entries you so kindly gave me last time, which got me off and running. I took out a subscription to Roots Ireland for a month on the strength of your previous reply, which gave me a few more good leads for other members of the family. I believe Martha is a transcription error and the entry should be Matilda as mother for them all. If only they had stayed put in Ballysakeery, their records are better, but after the parents moved to Rathalcken with their daughter Matilda and son-in-law Henry, the trail runs cold because of the loss of records in that Parish.
The problem with records like the Griffiths Valuation and the tithe applotment records is that I can't prove it's the same Henry Robinson. His name crops up in a few legal reports, too, for things like letting his horse stray. Anyway, it all helps, and hopefully I will find something that will point to the existence of descendants of Henry Robinson and Matilda Tighe.

Sorry to duplicate Louise.
Just wonder about whether DNA test might somehow help ascertain that the Tithes & Griffiths Tighes 7 robinsons are yours?

Good point Col. Coincidentally, my brother has just had his DNA done primarily to see if we can make some headway with an English ancestor which follows the male line directly. The Tighes/Robinsons are a maternal link. Fingers crossed we can match up with some people from a variety of lines and solve them all at once.
