Searching for Hemphills living in Ulster who might be willing to DNA test. There are a number of hemphills who have done a significant amount of DNA testing hoping to connect various Hemphill lines to Northern Ireland. We believe that as a result of this testing we may have identified several SNPs that many Hemphills carry. My husband's ancestor, James was born in Tyrone in 1790. His parents are unknown. His first born son was Henry.

Dear Pat
Apologies for the long delay in getting back to you. Have you managed to find out any more about the above?
Best wishes

Hi Bret,
Cheers back.
Since I first posted this, we have had a number of Hemphills outside of the US test their DNA at Family Tree DNA including from Canada, England and now Australia. Are you in touch with other Hemphills in Australia? Several Canadian Hemphills can trace their ancestry to Castlederg, NI as well as one of our Hemphills from Australia. There seems to be a strong DNA connection in my husband's DNA to these Castlederg Hemphills.
If you are interested in DNA testing, you can go to Their web sit and explore their paternal projects. I recommend starting with a 37 marker YDNA test which sometimes goes on sale.
Thank you!
Pat Hemphill

Brett, I also live in Australia.
I have SHARKEY (perhaps Martin, Harper also) from Co Tyrone. I have many DNA matches. Interestingly one is looking for Hemphill and one is looking for Entrekin in Co Tyrone. I am looking for Campbell and both are related to me.
Could a bit of a triangle going on here. Could you contact me on pastlane@bigpond.net.au

Hi Pat, I am in the Hemphill Project and am interested in Kerr/Hemphill links. I have seen a few Kerrs, Hemphills and Rogers connections in Ancestry.

If this is the same James Hemphill then his wife was Sarah Hemphill (born Cochran) at least going by some entries in MyHeritage.

Hello,
I don't have a Hemphill connection that I am aware of. But I see that Chrissy mentioned a Harper connection in Co. Tyrone. I have a James B. Happer/Harper who died in 1843 in Co. tyrone. He married Margaret Jane Caulfield in 1817 as per her obit. They had many children in Drumadds/Drumads in Co. Tyrone before Margaret Jane emigrated with all her children to the USA in 1846, after James died. Margaret died Apr 20, 1885 near Byron, Olmsted Co., Minnesota at the home of her son-in-law Joseph Edmiston who was also from Co. Tyrone, possibly Kilsally.
