Trying to find out about Martin Noonan and spouse Katherine McLoughlin (born around 1840-50) whose son, Patrick Noonan migrated to Bronx NY around 1886. I got their names from Patrick's death certificate in 1932. Katherine is spelled with a C on the death certificate. Patrick is my great grandfather. I believe Patrick emigrated from Queensland. I believe he was from the western part of Ireland, but that is all I know. I think he may have had a sister, Ellen. Thank you.

  • Pat:

Did Patrick Noonan ever live in Ireland? If yes, what year was he born based on the death record or other source.

I searched the Roots Ireland indexes from 1840-1870 for all of Ireland and they do not have a Martin Noonan marriage record with a spouse named Catherine.

  • According to the death certificate Patrick Joseph Noonan was born May 12, 1869 in Ireland. He died on Aug. 16, 1932 in the Bronx, NYC. The spouse listed on the death certificate was listed as Margaret Noonan, but I believe her name was actually Mary and I think they married in the US because I was able to track down a marriage certificate in NYC. But she was also listed on the census as having emigrated from Ireland. Margaret/Mary died in 1901 and Patrick remarried in 1902, to Annie Gallagher. Catherine may be spelled with a K but on the death certificate it is C. Thank you.

Sorry for the dealyed response. i did not get an alert that you had responded. I noticed your comments when I was going thru older messges.

There are four civil birth index records for Patrick Noonans in 1869. One was in the Dingle Co. Kerry area, two were in Co. Limerick and the other in Tipperary. From looking at Roots Ireland index records, none of these records had a father named Martin. I did find an 1871 record where the father was Martin but the mother was Margaret not Catherine. Here is the index record for that record

    First name(s) Patrick
    Last name Noonan
    Registration year 1871
    Registered quarter/year 1871
    Registration district Waterford
    Volume 14
    Page 910

You could get a copy of this record from the General Register Office. The cost would be around 4 euros.

  • Roger, Thank you so much for your time and effort. This is becoming a real treasure hunt! At one point I found a Martin Noonan born in 1841 in County Limerick so I am no wondering if there might be a connection to one of those Patricks. Oh well, I shall keep on trying. After a while you begin to question everything, even official death certificates! Take care, Pat
