Hi, is anyone able to locate a marriage for Patrick Ward and Brigid Teigue in Templeport, Cavan.  I am assuming it is this area as one of their children married in this area in 1839 (Mary Ward married John Reilly on 10 April 1839, Templeport, address of bride was Kilsub).

If there is any other information on the Ward/Teigue family I would welcome information on this as well.

Jackie

  • I looked in Griffiths Valuation for Kilsob (sic). In 1857 it lists Patrick Ward as farming plot 9, which was a farm, just under 9 acres in size. He also had a share of some nearby bog (for turf).

There was also a Peter McTeague farming there. (The Mc prefix is detachable in Irish surnames, so that could be a relation of your Brigid Teigue.).

The tithe applotment records for 1826 show an Alexander Ward farming around 9 acres in Kilsub, so I?d guess that might be Patrick?s father on the farm that was plot 9 in 1857..

Here?s the Ward family in 1901:

  • Thank you for having a look - i'll take a look at what you have written and see if I can apply it to my family tree.

    Many thanks.

  • Jackie:

I assume the marriage occurred in 1820 or earlier if the daughter married in 1839. Roots has marriage records for Templeport RC church starting in 1836 so that would be too late for a record for Patrick and Brigid.

As an aside, the National Library of Ireland is placing all RC parish registers online for free searching starting on July 8th. I would review the Templeport register for your Wards and Teagues.
