Hi - I am looking for information on the father of Denis Collins born in Cappanihane or Ballinruane in 1891 to John & Mary Collins.  Mary's maiden name was also Collins. John was killed by a horse he was training in Ballinruane around 1894/5.  I am looking for info on his siblings and parents.

I am also looking for info on his wife Mary born 1857 - info on her siblings and parents - I believe her mother was called Anne (don't know her maiden name) but she was born around 1813.  I also think Mary had a sister called Alice born 1861 who married man named Peter Flagg and they went to USA.

Any information appreciated.

  • Hello Marie,

You no doubt have found little on the transcribed marriage records at rootsireland as to the identity of their father’s or townland. You should now apply to the GRO https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx for a research copy of the Civil Registration record which should have at least the father’s name and townland to enable you to further your research.

The important details to include are the Registration district Rathkeale , and the Vol and Page No.  5 and 283. Registration Date Apr - Jun 1882 . You can request the copy doc to be sent by email to speed up the process.

Cost details for a research copy etc :- A photocopy of an entry in the records can be purchased for €4.00.

The only match in the Feenagh & Kilmeedy Parish with a father Pat is detailed below.

John Collins Baptism 06-Mar-1838 FEENAGH & KILMEEDY

    Father Patk. Collins

    Mother Hana. Donoghue

As regards Maria/Maria Collins the possible baptisms are those detailed below

Parish Knocklong 1851, 1842  East Limerick

Parish St. Mary’s 1850  East Limerick

    Parish Drumcollogher 1848 West Limerick

    Parish Mahoonagh  1852 West Limerick

Parish Monagea  1855 Ballyquirk West Limerick

    Parish Kilcolman 1849 West Limerick

Feenagh & Kilmeedy is in West Limerick as are four of the baptisms above. There is a birth of a Denis Collins 1849 father Denis and mother a Johanna O’Brien in the Feenagh & Kilmeedy Parish. The only baptism for a Mary/Maria which offers a near match is 1849 baptism in Kilcolman Parish where the father is Denis Collins and a mother Cath O’Brien.

With the National Library of Ireland launching their free to view site of Catholic Parish records (microfilmed) about the 8th July you will have the opportunity to view the actual parish records for the above parishes to see if the records reveal anything more than the transcribed records.
