Trying to find baptismal cert for my great grandmother, Catherine McConnon, as well as marriage cert for her parents, Owen McConnon & Catherine McCabe.  I believe Owen & Catherine died here as well.

Catherine McConnon was born in Knockbride, Bailieboro, 25 April 1870.

Thank you all !!

UPDATE ****

I have found the baprismal record for Catherine McConnon of Knockbride, Born 25 April 1870. Perhaps the birthdate is incorrect because the baprism date is listed as 17 April, 1870. Either way, I am thrilled to have found it. I will be traveling to Ireland in August and was hoping to visit the church/area. I realize there is a Knockbridge East & West.

Catherine's parents: Owen McConnon & Catherine McCabe had their first child in 1867(I believe), again in Knockbride. I am trying to locate where these two lovebirds got married. Knockbride seems logical but I ahave been unsuccessful in finding a marriage record for them.  Any ideas?

Thank you kindly

  • If you want a baptismal certificate for Catherine then you would need to write to the parish priest. However if you simply want to view the entry in the baptismal register, I would wait until the 8th July when those records are due to go on-line free on the National Library site.

You could also get her statutory birth certificate for €4. There’s an entry in the civil indexes that matches the information you have given. Catherine M’Connon birth registered Bailieborough 1870 Volume 7, page 466. You can order a photocopy of the certificate from GRO Roscommon for €4.  http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx

You have to download and print off the form. Then either post or fax it back to them. You can’t e-mail it to them. However if you want them to e-mail the cert to back to you, they will do that, so tick the relevant box.

Put the reference details on the form (anywhere). Don’t worry about leaving some boxes blank. As long as GRO have the location, name(s), year, quarter (where there is one), volume and page number they should find it.

A statutory birth certificate generally contains more information than a baptismal certificate.

I can’t see the parent’s marriage in the statutory marriage registers. For RC marriages they only start in 1864 so they may have married before that year. In which case you will nee dot rely on the church records. Hopefully they married in Knockbride. Knockbride’s marriage and baptism records start in 1835. RC parishes generally don’t keep burial records. However in this case Knockbride does have burial records, covering the years 1835 – 1875.

Can’t see death certs for either parent in the statutory records. McConnon is not a common name in the county. There are only 3 households in the 1901 census. Could the family have moved away before 1901? Can’t see a will listed for the family in Co Cavan.

  • Dear Elwyn,

Thank you kindly for your speedy response and all of the options for my search.  I do have a copy of the Volume & page number in the Birth Registration book.  It lists Knockbride as place of birth. I am trying to figure out if they were affiliated with the East or West Knockbride church, or perhaps a different one.

I was able to get in touch with the Cavan Genealogy Center and they have suggested swinging by on my visit to your faire island and checking out the Knockbride listings as well as the Ordinance maps. I have an address of Australia Street, but that is from 1901, 30 years after the birth of Catherine.  But the Australia Street address could possibly lead to where the family ended their days in regard to the nearest church.

Thank you again for taking the time to answer my request. I truly appreciate it.

    Anne

  • Hi Anne,

I searched the Baptismal records for the surname and it appears in the surrounding parishes of Killann, Cootehill and Killinkere, but I think I found another a child for them.  Do you have siblings for Catherine?  People usually got married in the brides church and they usually married a neighbour.  Their townland is what you require most and in this one it is Lisanalsky, which borders the parishes of Killann and Knockbride.  Good luck in your search.  Regards Carmel
