My great grandfather Denis McGuire, 24 left Ireland in 1874 traveling with his wife Mary (Carolan), 22 with their children Elizabeth (Lizzie) 2 and Hugh (an infant). Also Mary's brother Michael Carolan,13 and sister Kate Carolan, 7 and Agnes Maguire, 17. They came from Shercock, County Cavan and traveled on the ship Minnesota arriving in New York in June of 1874. They settled in Kings County, Brooklyn, NY. If anyone can provide any information on this family's life and relatives in the Shercock (Darkley) area it would be sincerely appreciated. I believe Denis' parents names were James McGuire & Mary (McCluskey). Thank you.

I was unable to locate a baptismal record for Denis or a marriage record between Denis and Mary. I could only locate transcriptions of the baptismal records for the two children. (see below).
I looked up the 1856 Griffiths Valuation head of household listings for Shercock civil parish. There was a Peter james Maguire in Darkley townland and I'm wondering if that is your James McGuire.

Hi: Those are the two births I have been able to confirm, and then the family left for New York a few months after Hugh's birth arriving in June of 1874. I am hoping when the new records for the Parishes come online this week I can find information on Denis and Mary's marriage. Another person had found a marriage for the same names, but the ages were too far off and it was in Donegal County. Thank you for taking the time to respond, every little bit helps.

Hi,
I think you may be talking about my great great grandparents, and my great-grandma (Lizzie). Although the name McGuire is fairly common in Ireland, so maybe there's heaps, but the information seems right on track! What else do you know about them, living in New York, more children, moving, anything else? I know some, but it may potentially be for another family. But my family originated in Shercock, and since it's quite a small town I think we've got it! If you've got a way to private email, maybe we can chat some more?
Cheers!

Also we've always known it as MaGuire, if that makes any difference.

Please refresh my memory.....did I ever get back to you on your message about your great-grsndmother Lizzie? If I did just ignore this message.

Hi Claudia,
No, you didn't. You can email me at kebanaszak22@gmail.com. I've also found that Mary Carolan's father was named Peter and was a carpenter and Dennis, her husband, was her father's apprentice.
Cheers,
Kristen
