I searched Find My Past (family search by subscription) and the majoirty of the hits were for Clifden in Galway withe the Drogehda marriage included, Church of Ireland marriages are online for the main church in Drogehda and the RC records are due on line July 8th on Irish Genealogy for free also.

Find my Past gives 4 possible husbands with Curley the most unusual but not unknown, Fox is in the town as is Courtney and Brien or O'Brien is plentiful.

Drogheda was a major port for travel to Britain, mainly Liverpool at the time and there would be no travel records as it was one country then, it is possible they got married and moved on, will check again after July 8th and on the Church of Ireland site, the marriage certificate, photocopy would be available for €4 from https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/General-Register-Office.aspx

  • Thanks Pat, I believe that she did stay in Ireland as I have a cousin in Pittsburgh, PA who remembers writing letters for our great Aunt Catherine (Mary Anne's sister) to someone in Dundalk. Might have been one of Mary Anne's children. Charles Malue

  • I might add that her father's names was James Malue and her mother's name was Kitty Ann Gorman. I too saw all the Malues in Galway, but am not sure if they are connect very closely. Family lore had the Malues coming from Mayo to Armagh, but we know how family lore can be not completely trusworthy.

I am the bearer of bad tidings, searched the civil records that came online this morning and only the wifes name is given, curiouser and curisiouser. There is no church record and I am hoping that it may turn up later on this site Irish Genealogy which apppears to be online now but I see is to be official at 1400 hours.

Oddly I myself have trouble with a lady called Mary Anne. THe only thought I have for now is to search the Irish Census for 1901 and 1911 using the names of the husbands I gave earlier and see if a Mary Anne is in the house or possibly a Malue relation, sometimes a mother or father came to live as they were alone or unwell. There should be a record for St Peters Catholic Church in Drogheda as it is a very large church and parish which still dominates the centre of the main street, West Street.

The family lore may be okay too as Galway and Mayo are neighbouring counties but I think Clifden is not that close to Mayo. Dundalk however is close to Armagh County and indeed the city of Armagh.

I may look again later but have ot go out now, thought it would be so simple once the civil records came on line.

  • Hello Pat, Thanks for the info. I stayed up late last night and followed your lead on some possible last married names. I used Fox as that kind of rung a bell and was able to find her (I am pretty sure) in the 1911 census. She married a Thomas Fox @1886 and had 7 children. She was resident at Lisnawilly (Dundalk Rural, Louth) at the time of the census. It must have been one of the daughters that my deceased cousin was writing to. Now to find the year of her death. Thanks much as this great aunt was the witness of birth on my grandfather's birth record. By the way, I have a brother named Pat after my aforementioned grandfather. Don't all Irishmen have a brother named Pat!!. Thanks again, Charles
