I am searching for more information about my maternal great-grandmother, Mary Ann Hall, her parents, Susan Shannon and James Hall, and any information about their parents.

Susan Shannon was born about 1821 in Ireland to John and Mary Shannon, She married James Hall, son of Charles Hall, in Kilcommick Parish, Co. Longford, Ireland on 9 Oct 1845; per the record set, this was a non-Catholic marriage. According to the 1901 Canada Census, Susan and Mary Ann emigrated to Canada in 1854.

Susan and James’ daughter Mary Ann Hall was born 2 August 1847 in Ireland. James Hall likely died before 1854, possibly in Ireland. I have not found passenger lists for any of the extended Shannon family, although a James Hall, age 28, is listed as died on the ship Agnes in 1847 before reaching Quebec.

It is likely the following Shannon family members moved to Warwick, Lambton County, Ontario, Canada from the Keenagh, Kilcommick Parish, Co. Longford area. The following extended Shannon family members have connections such as living in each other’s’ households at census time, witness at weddings, informant on death registers, etc. Their religious affiliation was consistently listed as Church of England/Anglican.

John S Shannon b. abt 1789 Ireland, d. 1880 Warwick, weaver, parents unknown

Mary ___ (John S’s wife), b. abt 1787 Co. Longford, d. 1872 Warwick, weaver, parents unknown

Robert Shannon b. Apr 1790 Kenagh, Co. Longford, d. 1888 Warwick, weaver, parents unknown (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=145579756)

William Shannon b. abt 1818 Ireland, d. 1893 Warwick, farmer, parents unknown

Susan Shannon b. abt 1820 Ireland, parents John and Mary, married James Hall 1845 in Kilcommick Parish, Co. Longford; married Robert Trafford 1854 in Warwick, Ontario, d. 1897 Enniskillen, Ontario.

John Shannon b. abt 1833 Ireland, d. 1906, weaver, farmer, parents John and Mary

Robert Shannon b. abt 1833, a marriage record states birth was Longford, Munster Co, Ireland (possibly the recorder’s poor knowledge of Irish provinces), farmer, d. unknown, parents unknown

Sarah Shannon b.  abt 1836 Ireland (possibly William’s first wife, sister, cousin, or niece), parents unknown (she was in the 1861 census only)

Mary Ann Hall, b. abt 1847 Ireland; married Richard Cox 1880 in Warwick; d. 1920 Bottineau, North Dakota, USA, parents James Hall and Susan Shannon

Mary J Powell, b. abt 1854 U.S. (She was a household member in the 1861 census--as was Mary Ann Hall, who turned out to be a Shannon relative--so Mary J may be a relative also.)

Mrs. Bentley, daughter of John the elder, was the informant for his and Robert the elder’s Death Registers. (There is a Sarah Powers who married a Benjamin Bentley in Ontario but any association to the Shannon family is tenuous at best)

There are similarly named Shannons in nearby areas within Lambton Co. Ontario, some of whom were also Anglican.

I am posting this as much for a connection for relatives to contact me as much as for your advice. I appreciate your time!

Welcome to ireland Reaching Out and sorry for the delayed response. I looked at theonline irish phone book and did not see any Shannon or Hall entries in your area of interest. It does not appear that there is an active Church of Ireland church in Kilcommon parish. Why don't you contact the church in Templemichael and see if they can assist?
