Searching for the families of William Herlihy who married Margaret Walsh 23 Feb 1841 in Annakissy. I have located their marriage record and but have had no luck with their baptismal records or parents' names. After their marriage they had 3 children in Ballygriffin Ireland before immigrating to the US. (I have found those 3 baptismal records)
I was told William Herlihy's parents were John Herlihy and Mary Drislane but would like to have proof. Assuming that John Herlihy and Mary Drislane are the correct parents I have also, found the baptismal records for William's 2 siblings Bridget 8 Feb 1820 and Ellen 13 Oct 1827 but trying to flesh out rest of family. I was told that he was born in Ballygriffin near Killavullen County Cork.
As for Margaret Walsh if they followed the traditional naming practices of the time then her parents were probably William and Bridget as these were the names of their second and third children. I don't know but suspect they were from the same town.
The names of Margaret and William's children were as follows: John, William, Bridget, David, Mary, Cornelius, Johanna, Ellen and Margaret
I have been searching the newly released parish records for Annakissy, Castletown Roche and Mallow and have family groupings but no way to prove links. I would love to able to move back a generation. I find the parish and town designations confusing at times so I hope I am not missing anything.
If there are any records that I could use to help cross check that would be helpful. I am considering paying Mallow Heritage Center to search but am wondering if they have much more than what is available online.
All help is appreciated!

  • Since my original post I have learned that Michael "Mick" Herlihy 1901-1976 was a relative. He lived on the family farm in Ballymacmoy, Killavullen with his parents Denis Herlihy and Margaret Turner. Mick never married and went and worked in England for a while but then returned. I have found the family in the 1901 and 1911 Irish Census living in Ballymacmoy. Eventually the family moved to Castletownroche and bought a house there near the church and lived there till they died and are all buried in a family plot in Monanimy.  Is Ballymacmoy a subdivision of Killavullen and Monaminy a subdivision of Castletownroche?

If I can figure out how these two families are related I may be able to flesh out my family. Any help is appreciated!!
