Hello! I'm hoping someone on here might be able to help me. I'm researching my great great great grandfather, James Egan Wall. Based on current information I believe he was born in Loughrea around the year 1817. He may or may not have a brother whose initials are 'J.  H.' He trained as a pharmacist (I believe this was in Dublin and strongly suspect that there might be proof for his doing this in the October 19th, 1839 edition of the Freeman's Journal, although I still need to confirm this) and came out to Australia, arriving at some point around 1843 (according to his newspaper obituary in Australia). How he came out to Australia remains a great mystery as well, as no records have yet been confirmed for that either!

James Egan Wall has been one of the big family enigmas for my family for years, although we're finally getting somewhere with details of his life in Australia. However, his early life remains tantalisingly out of reach, with just the merest glimpse of the bare bones. If anyone has any information that might help fill in some gaps, it would be amazing. And on the off chance there is anyone over there who has the opposite problem and would like the Australian part of his life story that we've managed to puzzle out, I'd be more than happy to oblige. Thanks!

  • Haven't heard anything yet, but I have managed to ascertain that James' brother, JH is John H Wall. I don't know if that will help, but you never know, right?

    Hi

I maybe able to help. My great great grandfather was also a James Wall from Loughrea born in 1809. It is highly unlikely they were brothers but they may well have been cousins. Our James had a son John but it seems like many children from Ireland names like James, John, Patrick, Michael were very common.

Happy to talk if you would like and to give you access to the research I have done over the last twenty years. What is the best number to get you on?

    Regards

  • Hi Ross,

Thanks for the response. My grandfather, Bill Thompson, did a lot of the initial legwork for me on this about thirty years ago and I've worked from there. I've got a gmail account I can be reached at - uawkat. I'd be happy to give you a phone number via email  to discuss what we know and see if there is a connection.

    Thanks again,

    Kat Thompson
