I've been researching my paternal genealogy for the past five years and have recently come across information leading me to believe that my ancestors may have once lived in Mallow. My 3x Great Grandfather was John O'Brien.

Immigration records for the Castle Garden facility in NYC suggest he arrived in America in 1827 and he was first on record in the 1838 City of Rochester Directory. Although the 1850 US Census for Birdsall, NY suggests his birth year was 1795, both 1840 and 1870 records indicate about 1798.

This baptism record is the closest match I can find for my ancestor in Irish archives. Is there any possibility that there are living descendants of this family still today in Mallow?

  • Hi David

Well done on deciphering the microfiche record.

    Here's one from www.rootsireland.ie/:

    Name:John BrienDate of Birth:

    Date of Baptism:01-Sep-1794Address:
    Parish/District:MALLOWGender:MaleCountyCo. Cork

    Denomination:Church Of Ireland
    Father:Robert Brien

We are not permitted to post telephone listings on this site but I can tell you that there are 52 O'Briens in Mallow in the Irish phone book (http://www.118.ie/) It's the 11850 directory on which you select people search and then enter O'Brien & Mallow.
